With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of the remarkable woman, Mary Muñoz, who left this world peacefully on July 29, 2023, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.
Born in Bastrop on May 25, 1942, Mary was always a force of nature - a whirlwind of love, laughter, and a touch of mischief. She had a passion for celebrating every occasion in life and was always surrounded by loved ones. She was well-known for her unwavering generosity and hospitality and treated every person who passed through her home as family.
Mary had a shrewd intelligence and a razor-sharp wit that was as hilarious as it was biting; she kept us all on our toes and constantly laughing. Her fierce energy was truly unmatched, and she challenged all those around her to try and keep up. Many accepted the challenge, but few were able to succeed.
Mary and her lifelong love, and husband of sixty-three years, Frank Muñoz, came from humble beginnings. Together, they were able to transform their lives and create a loving and nurturing home for their family. With their endless support, their children and grandchildren were afforded opportunities they could have only dreamt of in their youth. Their resilience has left behind a legacy of unconditional love and joy that has united and uplifted generations of families.
For eighty-one years, Mary stormed through this life with a purpose and passion that has left all of us forever changed. While her loss leaves a far-reaching sadness, her extraordinary spirit endures within the hearts of all who came to know her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Renteria and Paula (Pauline) Lozano Renteria, her siblings Vincent (Ben) Renteria, Sofia Renteria Mendoza, Louisa Renteria Martinez, Raul (Leon) Renteria, Vincent Jr. Renteria, Jose Maria Renteria, Margaret Renteria Torres, and Lupe Renteria Castro.
