Our beautiful mother, Linda Elaine Howden, left this world wrapped in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. She was 73. She joins her sister Judy Mapes, mother Eris Smith and father Hugh Bud Smith in Heaven. We have no doubt they are all together now, sipping coffee and playing cards next to a campfire.
Linda was born in Midland, Michigan on May 28, 1946. She attended Bronson School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse and worked in the field of allergy and asthma for nearly 40 years. Linda was a loving and devoted mother to Michael, Pamela and Amanda. She lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan and was married to Alan Howden until she moved to Texas in 2012 to be close to her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated grandmother who regularly attended her grandchildren’s school events.
She loved camping and trips to the beach, spending time with her best friend and sister Judy in Ludington, Michigan. She cherished visits and letters from her beloved cousin, Linda.
Our mom was a lover of lavender flowers and birds, lambs and chubby babies. She loved nature, big white-capped waves, lighthouses and the wind on her face. It brought her great joy to feed bread to seagulls as they flocked around her. She loved reading books and was a volunteer at the Georgetown Public Library. She also spent time playing dominoes with her loving friends at Mariposa Apartment Homes in Georgetown, Texas where she resided.
She was an active member of Crestview Baptist Church.
Linda is survived by her brother Terry Smith and his wife Becky, her son Michael Maag and his wife Misti, daughter Pamela and her husband Clint Basey, daughter Amanda and her husband Paul O’Brien, grandchildren: Michaela and her husband Trevor Seidenberger; Taylor, Cade, Marley, Seth, Luke, Raegan, Tyler, and Eris, as well as great-grandchildren Beau and Jolee.
Despite personal struggles with her own illness, she found great joy in praying for others. She will be dearly missed by so many.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Georgetown Public Library.
