Judy was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 3, 1935, to William A. Meyer and Helen E. Meyer. After graduating from high school in 1954, she pursued a stewardess position with United Airlines, relishing the opportunity to connect with people and lend a helping hand. Following her time as a stewardess, Judy attended nursing school at Little Company of Mary in Chicago, Illinois. Graduating as a Registered Nurse, she embarked on a fulfilling career in healthcare.
In 1959, Judy married William A. Donovan, and they made their home in San Diego, California. Judy dedicated herself to her role as an RN, working in a doctor's office for many years before joining Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. Her passion for nursing continued throughout her life, even as she took breaks to raise her family. Returning to Scripps Memorial Hospital after her children were grown, Judy exemplified dedication and compassion in her nursing career until her retirement in the early 1990s.
In her later years, Judy's love for our Heavenly Father led her to volunteer at the Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside, California, where she was cherished by the brothers and priests whom she assisted. In 2020, Judy relocated from California to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, before finally settling in Buchanan Dam, Texas, in 2021 to be closer to her family.
Judy is preceded in death by her son, William Michael Donovan, her parents William A. Meyer and Helen E. Meyer, her brother William A. Meyer Jr., and various aunts and uncles. She is survived by her children Sue Donovan (Katherine) of Liberty Hill, Texas, Jim Donovan of Austin, Texas, and John Donovan of Buchanan Dam, Texas, along with her sisters Mary Lawson (David) of Garland, and Sue Burdette (Pat) of Kennewick, Washington, and numerous cousins.
The family of Judy Donovan wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the hospice group of Compassus for the devoted and loving care they gave to our mother and sisters.
There will be a memorial service at Hoover Valley Chapel, on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:30 am.
