Uncle Chung was a gentle and quiet man with few words, but with the few words he would express his warmth and kindness. As a child living in Hong Kong, I remember Uncle Chung would take my Brothers and I to Ocean Park and would spent the day playing on rides, watching dolphin shows, he would spoil us with toys and fast food. Then Uncle Chung immigrated to the U.S and with my family immigrating to Australia, we saw little of each other. But with the times that we did meet in Hong Kong, Zhongshan, Las Vegas and Australia. I will remember all the good times that we have spent together. Our last trip to Las Vegas with my Mum and Dad, Uncle Chung welcome us with open arms and made sure we were looked after and taken care of. He cooked a lovely and delicious meal for us with lobsters and seafood, took us sightseeing and dining at great restaurants. And with all these memories my Mum, Dad and I will treasure and have Uncle Chung in our hearts forever. We will miss you dearly.

亲爱的方翊聪姨丈，

       我一直感到很幸运我和健恒的成长里面一直有姨妈姨丈的关照。在我回国跟外公外婆住之前，我最喜欢地方之一是姨妈姨丈家了。现在细想，应是那里温馨的气氛，门口前还有糖果罐，当然最重要的是全心全意的关爱。因为每次姨妈姨丈帮忙代班接我放学，我都可以享受到做作业前可以吃东西的待遇，一个炒鸡蛋一些零食，真的是幸福感满满的事情。我妈妈的兄弟姐妹关系密切，逢年过节总有不同的聚餐，无论是西方的圣诞节还是华人的中秋节，被“逮住“（抱住）拍大合影的时候总是不少，小时候嫌烦，长大反而主动提出想留影。
          回国后我跟公公婆婆一起生活度过了欢乐的童年及青春期， 而姨妈姨丈则会定期打电话过来问候公公婆婆。我敢肯定，外婆最爱的女婿绝对是姨丈，因为每次姨丈回国探亲，婆婆都是那么快乐。姨丈也许不是最巧舌如簧的人，但是不可否认他有太多令人喜爱的品质了，他踏实能干，真挚善良，宽厚待人，和热爱家庭。中山是姨丈的根，也是我四分之一的老家，外婆和姨丈是老乡，他们两家的良好关系和我姨妈姨丈的爱情故事是小时候我最喜欢听的故事。因为这样真挚的感情和长期的相互维系是多么的珍贵。我小时候随大人们去拜访过姨丈的妈妈，她是一个慈祥的奶奶，还热情的招待我吃黄皮。在中国住这几年，虽然放学不再时常去姨妈姨丈家了，可是却从没有陌生过，因为时不时的电话和他回国的探亲。
             一切那么突然，上次见姨丈还是他的生日家庭聚餐。几年前，我们搬回了拉斯维加斯，姨妈姨丈非常热心的帮助我们适应这边的生活，离开了婆婆和深圳投入一个陌生的城市。无尽的乡愁被化解于一道道家乡美食上面，加上每次一起吃饭时聊天有人倾听我分享故事和欣赏我的幽默。在疫情发生之前，我们还经常一切去看拉斯维加斯赌场里面的表演，拿着员工骨折价一起去做”一日游客”；去不同的餐厅探店，什么日本餐，越南粉，泰国菜，还有自助餐。这几年，也许是因为共同分享过太多太多的美好回忆，也有机会真正跟方翊聪姨丈这位可爱可敬的长辈像朋友一样聊天，因此十分的不舍。您走了以后再也没有愿意跟我这种又技术烂又爱玩的人打麻将，连我爸爸都嫌弃我的麻将技术不愿意跟我打麻将，可是你却依然对我宽容和耐心提点。请你一路走好，我一定会照顾好姨妈，有我妈一份也有我姨妈一份，带她们出去探店吃美食，旅游看风景，还有我要磨练厨艺做饭给她们吃。

Thank You Pat, for all the Thanksgiving dinners I shared with your family and friends, over 25 years ago. You did all the cooking and we did all the eating,so many different dishes, so many people and so many blessings. Not to forget the many, many DIM-SUMS (lunches)  we had together and  you always paid for everything.
Then the time you gave me ; yes gave me a house full of  furniture in 2002 and we  loaded the furniture in your van  and  drove across town about 15 miles , then we carried the furniture up a flight of stairs; I’m tired just thinking about it , but there’s more,  you wouldn’t even take gas money, so all I can say Pat, is thank you for your friendship ; and all the good times.


Pat grew up in China raised by his mom and sisters until he was 26 years old. He then moved to Hong Kong and met his dad for the first time. His dad taught him a lot of life principles and also sent him to cooking school in Hong Kong to prepare for his future. In 1977, His Aunt Wai Ping and Uncle Eddie helped him move to the States for a better life. He worked so hard to adapt to life in the states, learning a new language and embracing a new culture. He eventually made the move to Las Vegas in 1978. He then went back to Hong Kong to visit and we began our courtship.

My mom’s family and Pat’s family were friends for a long time, so I knew Pat when I was a young girl, but never thought he would be my future husband until in December 1980 when he went back to Hong Kong to visit his Dad. When Pat proposed to me, I did not hesitate to say “yes,” because I knew everyone in his family was so welcoming, kind, and generous. I am so lucky to find him. My life had been changed for the better.

I miss you. Life without you will be so hard for us. When I was a little girl, I dreamed that one day if I got married, the person would be like my father; a very nice person, takes care of everything in the house, never raise his voice and also funny sometimes too. Pat had all those traits and more. Thank You so much for letting me be a part of your life. You spoiled me, my kids, my father, my mother, brother and sister and even brought them to states. My mother once said you are the best son-in-law in the world.

He was such a hard working person. He almost never called in for work. He worked 6 days a week, 10 hours a day. Even though he worked hard he still made time for his friends. He enjoyed getting drinks with his friends, trips to the casino to play a little bit (he had good self control though). After he became a father, he changed his lifestyle. He took care of family, made sure everyone got good food, maintained the house (he knew how to fix almost anything). （1/3）

He was such a caring person. He loved to cook and always prepared food for Raymond. When I come home from work, the dining table always had two or three dishes set up for me. He made sure my tummy was never flat. When friends asked for help (especially with money, he didn’t know how to say “no”).

He was a respectful person, even though he could not see his aunts or uncles often, he made
phone call every couple months to check on them.

He loved to travel especially to see his old friends back in China. Once Taylor said, “Dad like a
completely different person when he is in Zhongshan, talking, laughing, drinking.” He loved to travel to see his sisters in Australia. It was so great when we got the chance to see his relatives in New York and San Francisco a few years back.

His loving kind nature he got from his parents. He expressed love through cooking. Pat went out of his way to feed his loved ones. His daughter-in-law Brenda loves a pork and pickled vegetable dish her grandma used to make and Pat would try to recreate it all the time. He would go to the markets hunting for good quality Chinese mustard, but more often than not had to throw out the Chinese mustard because it wasn’t the right quality for the dish. Whenever Uncle David came over for dinner Pat would make seafood just for him.

Pat loved food, but family came first. On Father’s Day, I told him to make his favorite dish… Rib eye steak, but he said to wait for another night because Raymond did not want too much meat before going to work.

Pat loves cooking. After he retired almost every single day we got soup, chicken with ginger and green onion, steamed ground pork, live fish, bbq duck, roasted pork, seafoods and rib eye steaks were his favorite. He always made so much there was never room for dessert. 

World cup soccer still was his favorite sport. He was looking forward to the World Cup, but this year’s game got pushed back to November. We’ll watch in his memory. (2/3)

Pat was a fighter! He fought cancer (Lymphoma Waldenstrom) for 8 years, never giving up. He tried to be normal during his battle, cooking, going to the park, gardening, going out and meeting his friends for coffee at McDonald’s, trips to the Chinese markets, watched TV and YouTube, and he loved to see videos and pictures of his grandkids Layla and Brayden. Ecko kept him active and brought him joy. He also enjoyed playing ping pong with me. I won most of the time.

He was so proud of Taylor and Raymond. As teenagers they never had problems and they grew up to became wonderful grown ups. Both of them are like Dad, hard workers. Taylor has Brenda and Raymond had Vy to take care of each other. I think he can rest easy knowing they both found loving partners.

Our lives are forever changed without you. I will miss you every day. I love you so much. （3/3）

Thanks for always providing us with your love through your cooking. I will always be forever grateful for you remembering and making my favorite dishes. It was always a wonderful surprise when you would drop off chow fun after I had Layla, or when Sha or Taylor would come home with my favorite pork dish. I know that each dish was made with love and it made it that much more special. 

Your grandkids will always remember you in the stories that Taylor, Sha, Raymond and myself will share. Like how you didn’t need to use YouTube to fix anything, somehow you just knew how to do it!  

Thanks for loving us and providing us with the best memories. We will miss you. 

Dad was a quiet man with a big heart. He was always there to make sure we were taken care of before he took care of himself. Whenever something needed to be done around the house, he would do his best to try to do it himself, even if he didn't know how, he would try to figure it out. He always put his family first. While we were growing up, dad worked very hard at the restaurant. The
little time he did have off, he spoiled Mom, Taylor and me. I remember even some days he wasn't off, he would wake up early and take Taylor and me to Circus Circus, Scandia, the park to bbq, or just mcdonalds or arbys before work on the weekends. As we got older, we didn't go to arcades anymore, but our way of bonding was food. Dad loved to cook, and we loved to eat. Dad really expressed his love through food. He would always ask if we were hungry, or if we ate yet, or if we ate enough. There was no going hungry if dad was around. After Dad made something, He wanted to know if we liked it or not. When he knew we liked something, he made it all the time. I'm really going to miss his cooking and eating dinner with him every night before work. And I'm going to miss the big family dinners he used to prepare. He always thought about who was coming and made sure to make something they would enjoy. This was the selfless, loving man that Dad was. I will always cherish our times together. I'm going to miss you Dad, Love you.


Dad, 

You were always a man of a few words, but with those few words I always knew that you loved your family more than anything. I learned from you it’s the little things… you always got mom flowers on special occasions, you made sure there were always late-night snacks in the fridge, you made sure we were safely tucked into bed before calling it a night. 

Growing up I watched you work grueling 12-hour shifts, 6 days a week to ensure we had more than we needed. With your one day off, you always without question made time for Raymond and me. Without protest, you spent the day with us riding go-karts, playing arcade games, eating fast food, and splurges at the toy store. 

I’ll cherish the memories we shared. I’ll never forget the words of wisdom you provided during milestones. I’ll carry the family name nobly and proudly as you did. I promise to honor your last words to me. 

You’re a great man, a loving husband, an awesome father, and an amazing grandfather. We’ll miss you. We’ll keep you in our thoughts. We love you. 

Sending my condolences to Sha, Raymond, and Toby. I met Patrick about 22 years ago. I was around 17 years old when I first met him. He was so sweet, humble, and gentle. Patrick was the hardest working man I have ever encountered. No matter how tired he was, he would make time to cook and take care of the family. He was so quiet and was a man of few words, but his expressions and his heart of always giving said it all. In all the years I have known him, he never once raised his voice or complained about anything. From the moment I met him, he treated me like family. My father wasn’t around much and I had a strained relationship with my dad. Patrick made me feel like I had a father and really made me feel loved. He has truly made an imprint on my heart and I am incredibly grateful to have known him. As the world loses an incredible soul, Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. I love you, Patrick and will miss you dearly.
