William Lee Tharp was born on January 15, 1936 and passed away on December 11, 2020 at the age of 84. Bill, as most knew him by, served in the United States Navy before moving to Las Vegas, NV where he became a police officer for the City of Las Vegas Police Department and then later joining the North Las Vegas Police Department. His career with NLVPD spanned over 23 years ending with his retiring as the Chief of Police. Bill was an avid cowboy, loving to rope, ride, and rodeo, but after years of retirement, his true calling came back to him, pushing him to run and win the seat of Sheriff in Benewah County, Idaho, where he served for 4 years before retiring again. Bill will forever be loved and respected by his family, friends, and colleagues and will be deeply missed by all.
William is survived by his wife, Nancy, his children, Craig Tharp of Las Vegas, NV, Cammy Tharp of Filer, ID, Kyle Rutledge of Las Vegas, NV, and Byron Tharp of Pahrump, NV, and his grandchildren Derek Tharp, Amanda Brock, Jessica Hicks, Sage Rutledge, and Laney Rutledge.
No services will be held at this time, though we hope to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
