Bill was born on December 26, 1937 to Helen and Robert O’Melia in Syracuse, NY. After Bill graduated high school, he joined the United States Air Force in 1954 where he retired as a Tech Sergeant in 1975 after honorably serving 21 years.
Bill served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam where he received numerous decorations for honorable duties.
While in the Air Force he met Bernice with whom he had sons, Dennis and David O’Melia, who currently live in Nebraska. They divorced in 1967. While stationed in France, Bill met Patricia whom he went on to marry and raise their son Steve who lives near them in Las Vegas, NV. In 1975, Bill retired (for the first time) from the USAF in Valdosta, GA and went on to work for the Valdosta Police Dept until 1977.
In 1977 he and his family moved to New York where he started working in avionics for the FAA. After working in the FAA for another 21 years he retired for the 2nd time as the East Coast Regional Health and Safety Manager. While in NY he also attained an associate’s degree from SUNY and worked as a driver’s safety instructor.
In 1998 he and Patricia retired to Las Vegas, NV where they have lived happily ever after. While in Las Vegas he worked again as a driver’s safety instructor and retired, for the third time, after 5 years. He was no longer allowed to retire and from then was only allowed to leave his jobs.
In 1999 he and Pat started in a local bowling league where they met Paul, Barbie, their boys Matt and Tim, Bob, and many other friends. Paul, Bob, and Matt were chosen along with their neighbor Pat as Bill’s pall bearers.
In 2000 Bill joined Pat in volunteering at Helping Hands of Vegas Valley where they held various volunteer duties and posts for over 20 years.

In 2005 Bill and Pat moved to their 2nd Las Vegas home where they met Pat, Annette and their children Domenique and Pat Jr who have been their fantastic neighbors ever since.
In 2014 Bill started volunteering at the Nellis AFB pharmacy where he met his good friend Jim who he worked alongside.
Throughout their lives together Bill and Pat enjoyed river cruises and traveled around the world to many far off places.
Bill was predeceased by his brothers Terry and Bobby. He is survived by his wife Patricia and sons David, Dennis, and Steve.
A committal service for William will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 9:20 AM to 10:00 AM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
