Wendy was born May 26, 1948 in Chicago, IL to Vernon and Constance Diebold and was the baby sister to her older brothers Grant and Bruce.
Wendy had one son Eron from her first marriage, and later found her soul mate and partner for life in Tim Apel at the age of 34, who she was remained happily married to the rest of her life.
She received her Bachelors of Arts in San Diego before embarking on her lifelong passion as an educator, working for 33 years as a school teacher in the Clark County school district. Wendy loved teaching children and was one of the first teachers at Dooley Elementary in Henderson. She would eventually get her Master’s degree in education while working full time as a teacher. Her love for teaching and children resulted in her receiving the Distinguished Educator Award in 1996 and again in 2002 for the Southeast area, as well as numerous awards for her work with children. She retired in 2011 and loved to travel and enjoy life with her husband and friends, but also maintained her love of teaching by volunteering with the Clark County Museum giving educational tours, as well as serving on the Museum Guild.
Wendy was incredibly active socially and with family, often taking deep personal interest in the wellbeing of those around her. She juggled many things in her life…from difficult care taking duties for her parents and family members to dealing with her own ongoing health struggles. Yet somehow she always was available to spend fun time with friends and family, to give gifts, write thank you notes, travel to see everybody and fill her calendar to the maximum. She did this with an ease that somehow made the impossible seem effortless. Her sense of humor, caring nature and warmth will be greatly missed by many.
Wendy is survived by her loving husband Tim Apel; son Eron Lyon; brother Bruce Diebold and his wife Beth.
Visitation will be at Palm Mortuary at 7600 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas NV, 89123 on Sunday, March 18, from 11am until 1pm with services at 1pm.
Wendy’s spirit and smile will be deeply missed by all, and she will remain in our hearts forever.
