Terrill (“Terry”) Eugene Shanks took the hand of his Savior on Sunday, October 30, 2022, suddenly and unexpectedly, in Westminster, CO at the age of 83. He was born June 20, 1939 in Columbus, OH, the second of three children born to Opal (Jackson) and Erwin Shanks. He attended Olentangy High School in Lewis Center, OH, graduating in 1957 and enlisted in the United Sates Air Force.
He met his first wife, Nancy (Connot) Kelso, in Minot, SD and they were married in 1963. They had three beautiful daughters: Christina Jo, Catherine Kay and Connie Lee. They traveled the world while Terry served his country for 22 years. Their final stop was in Las Vegas, Nevada where they divorced in 1978 and Terry retired from the Air Force in 1979.
He met Carol (LaLonde-Nuoffer) at a Sunday worship service in late 1978 and they were married in 1980. He became “Dad” to her three children: Cord, Marci and Kristi and they became a blended family of eight. He is a life-time member of the VFW and the American Legion, a member of the National Air Force Association and the National Air Force Sergeants Association. He has served his church in many positions and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Las Vegas Tortoise Group and the Lutheran Camping Association of the Southwest.
Following retirement from the Air Force he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as an electronics technician, retiring after 25 years. He loved to travel, and he and Carol traveled to almost all the states including Alaska and Hawaii. They loved sunsets. His hobby was tinkering with anything and everything, and was successful at it, there was nothing he would not tackle. He was a good cook and a most awesome salsa maker. But most importantly he was kind, caring, generous, loving and a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his middle daughter Catherine, and his sister-in-law Linda LaLonde. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol; his children Christina Jo “CJ” (Shanks-McWilliams) Miller (Steve) of Las Vegas; David Ramsey (husband of Catherine) of Las Vegas; Connie Lee (Shanks)Torres (Bobby) of Spanaway, WA; H. G. Cord Nuoffer II, of Las Vegas; Dr. Marcelle D. Nuoffer, Ed.D of Las Vegas; Kristine E. L. (Nuoffer) Bower (Marc) of Broomfield, CO; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
