“I do not like to repeat successes, I like to go on to other things.”- Walt Disney Sterling Maxwell Simon passed away unexpectedly of complications due to end-stage renal failure on December 10, 2017 at the age of 22. He was a valued and respected member of the Henderson, NV community. Born on December 4, 1995 in Los Angeles, CA, Sterling spent most of his life in Henderson, where he attended Vanderburg Elementary School, Bob Miller Middle School, Coral Academy of Science, and Coronado High School. In his youth, Sterling possessed a strong sense of adventure. He loved to explore, and to learn. He loved performing science experiments, and creating new inventions out of whatever materials he could find. He had a passion for cooking, and would spend countless hours in the kitchen creating new recipes to share with his family. In his short time on this earth, Sterling touched the lives of so many people. He worked as a counselor for Youth Rally (a camp for children and teens with conditions of the bladder and bowel), gave speeches, lead radio-a-thons, and spearheaded fundraising efforts for many organizations close to his heart (including Children’s Miracle Network, Positively Kids, and Youth Rally). He was passionate about educating people about issues faced by the wheelchair-bound community, and taught workshops through his Boy Scout troop on handicap awareness. For his Eagle Scout Project, Sterling engineered an interactive educational playground to teach children letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. Sterling was always on a quest to better himself. He was dedicated to building a lasting career for himself to provide for his loving and devoted fiancée, Karlee Meyer. In October 2017, Sterling passed his real estate licensure exam and had begun working with a broker, delving deep into the fast-paced competitive world of commercial real estate. He became Vice President of Sterling Consulting & Management, and worked alongside his father to develop creative commercial real estate financing packages. Sterling cared deeply for his family, and treasured quality time with his sister. He had a passion for electronic music, and had aspirations of becoming a DJ in his spare time. Sterling faced every obstacle with a sense of humor, cracking sly jokes that even the direst situation into a giggle-fest. As Sterling said, “It’s not about the number of years, but rather how much that time is worth.” He worked hard to make every moment count, and his loved ones will carry his love and light onward. Sterling is survived by his fiancée, Karlee Meyer; sister, Hannah Simon; brother, Preston Simon; sister-in-law, Morgan Simon; nephew, Samuel Simon; mother, Dawn Simon; father, Maurice Simon; step-mother, Brenda Simon; maternal grandmother, Sandra Harrell; paternal grandmother, Sheila Schaffir; uncles, Russell Duncan, Anthony Humphrey and Ken Simon; aunt, Carol Simon; cousins, Lauren Simon and Stephanie Simon; and his loyal service dog Blaze Simon.
