Ok. So I couldn’t share anything for a long time. Steve and I had a bond. I’m sure a lot of you had a bond with him. But mine started at 15 and we were enemies and then friends. And then the best of friends. And then brothers. His death hurt me and I hid it like I always do. Those of you that know me and Steve and the fun we had you’ll understand.  This is therapy. Steve I love you bro 

To the Laman Family, Di and I and the kids just want to express to all of you our greatest sorrow and deepest sympathy on the passing of Steve ! He was such a bright light and kind hearted ❤️soul! I would like to share a few stories of my view of Steve and what he meant to the Doyle's. First one is golf related ,It always seemed Steve was paired with your dad on outing the best golfer with the well let's just say not the best and your dad always knew he had a chance because Steve was so good and the pride your dad had watching him play was unbelievable ! I can still see uncle Bob laughing and smiling and collecting at the end of the round. There is something special about making a dad happy you all did it but with Steve it was so natural and pure !!! Second golf story was Rick picked me up
From airport and in typical fashion we went directly to Rio Seco and met Steve and JD one of his good friends !! I am jet lagged and tired and go to the tee and I hear this Listen son I know your tired but out here in Vegas when you play with the
Laman's we play from the tips and it's a $5 Nassau. 2 down automatic presses!! Steve smiling like he did like he just ate the canary. I knew then we would always get along it was about 20 years ago but fresh in mind !! The last story I want to tell is at Denny's 80 th birthday at Rick and Mich's house I was behind the bar making a cocktail and Steve says hey Jimmy can we talk. I am like yeah sure (startled) He says I just want you to know how much we all love you ! I said well thanks Steve he says no you don't understand we all love you and I mean a lot !! He was telling me I was excepted in the family and he was your spokesperson ! Gave me a big hug and said we love ya brother ! Each of us has to carry a piece of him with us as he will never be forgotten and
Always be honored as an important member of an incredible family ! God

I was very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I first met him in the early 2000's when I had one of my first mgmt positions in slots where I purchased games and he was very helpful. Throughout the next 15 or so years we'd cross paths and catch up. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace.

I knew Steve for years.   I liked him. A lot. 

He was a rake. A loveable rogue.   He was a loyal friend. 

He loved his kids and the game of golf. He was competitive and funny. 

He was my buddy. And I’ll miss him.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I did not know him well, but he always came in with a big smile and a heart filled with joy. He loved talking about his beautiful wife, his daughters and his stepdaughters.  I hope those beautiful women can go on without him by keeping his love alive in their hearts. And, by knowing that he brought joy wherever he went, and then he shared his joy about his love for them with the world.

My heart is broken just thinking of the loss of your beautiful spirit in this world.  Always with a smile I will remember your joy when you stepped into the room.
The first time I met you was during the Laman Olympics when we crushed your older brothers in every sport they could think of.  Granted, the bar was not set too high, but you were certainly the best athlete of the family and it was fun to watch how competitive the family was.
We will miss you my friend, but I look forward to a Laman Olympic reunion in heaven.

What can you say about such a beautiful soul.  I have so many good memories of Stevie.....and a lot of funny ones.  He could always make me laugh.  We will miss him.  He was taken way too soon.   We love you Stevie.   

Our deepest sympathy to the Laman Family.  Steve has been our friend for many years since the Las Vegas Club days.  He played golf with our Hawai’i club whenever he could.  Steve was a lovable, funny, thoughtful guy and a great golfer.  I was happy that he got to golf at Ko Olina and Hoakalei while on a trip to Hawaii last year.

I met Steve playing t-ball in 3rd grade, we re-connected at Clark High School playing football together, 30 years later we worked together at Bally Technologies. When thinking back I always remember what a competitor he was. Steve was fun, kind, and always had something funny to say. To his daughters and family, my deepest condolences to you. Steve was a gem of a guy! I will miss him.

Steve, you are one of the most genuine, spirited people I have the honor of working with. Thank you for the kindness and warmth you have brought to those around you. You will  be deeply missed. 

Any man that has multiple TVs in his living room to catch all the games at once is my kinda guy. Steve was our neighbor and friend. Our dogs always looked forward to a visit. You’ll be missed. Thank you for the memories and I hope you’re somewhere playing golf on the most magical course imaginable. RIP.

You told me when we met that Id never meet another guy like you and you were right. I will never forgot the time we spent together and the memories we made. You were truly one of a kind. Until we meet again. 

Steve was among the first slot sales people I met as I was starting my gaming career in the early 2000s. I was in my early 20s and he was the old pro by then. I remember thinking that if I had to be as funny and witty as Stevie to make it, I was in big trouble. Very few people I’ve met since could command a room like him. 

Avalanche games with Morty, ski trips in Vail, all times I’m so fortunate to have shared with him.  The world is less fun without Steve here.  Rest In Peace.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Steve very long, but in the short time I knew him he touched my heart. He was so positive and uplifting about everything...except the quarantine. He hated it. He wanted to be surrounded by friends and family, playing golf, or fishing around the country.  I am tremendously sad that his life was cut short. Sending love and prayers to all he touched.

 I am going to miss the times at my son's house when you popped in and you two skewered me like chicken. I am going to miss the impromptu sessions with you and Shelly at the club where we spoke of the vagaries in life. I am also going to miss our banter back and forth where I tried to tame your rapier wit. I love you Stevie and always have. I am thankful for one of life's lessons that you taught me which I never forgot. Whenever eating any meal with your brother Rick never never never sit to his left. As you stated Rick being left handed is the best knife and fork man in Vegas. If you sit to his left your plate will become his. You have left a huge foot print on my heart Stevie. It will  be very difficult if not impossible to look your brothers and daughters in the eyes. The pain that accompanies a loss like yours can never be masked. You have taken with you a piece of their hearts. My son and all of your friends also will suffer without you here. I always suspected you would outlive me and you would be writing a scathing memorial for me. I don't know what is beyond the door Stevie. But, when you have time find Karen and kiss her for me. Tell her I love her and miss her desperately. See you soon Stevie.

I woke up Thursday morning and it was like every other day. I was thankful to be alive and thankful for my family and friends. I looked at my cell and there was a message from Janice to call her ASAP. I did as instructed and was told "sad news. Steve Laman died." I was stunned. The earth cracked.  I said to myself "My Stevie Laman. It can't be. How? When? Where? Why? It can't be. I just saw Stevie. He is going fly fishing around the United States. He invited me and I am still deciding. He just saw my grandkids and he was shocked Tripp was taller than him. This can't be. What about his children? They need him. You have to be wrong." All of these thoughts ran through my mine in milliseconds. I immediately spoke to my son and asked if he had heard the news. He didn't need to respond as his eyes welled with tears.  One never really comprehends someone's death until confronted with visual proof. When I saw your picture in the memorial section of Palm and read all the nice things being said about you reality set in. I have been crying for days Stevie. I have known you since birth. You were the bridge between the Laman's and the Pompa's. You were a uniting force for the families. I have watched you grow from a baby to a teenager to a man. I see your father in you. Bob Laman was one of the most honorable men Las Vegas has known. He was generous with his time and advise to everyone. You got your beautiful blue eyes from the Laman"s side of the family. You have a lot of your dad's qualities. I also see your mom, Nila, in you. Reasonable minds may differ but your good looks at confidant attitude can be traced to your mom. As a local boy and a cherished friend I have rooted for your success. I believe you have had a fabulous journey here on earth. While no journey is without it's ups and downs you have persevered. Your parents are proud of you Stevie as I am. I will miss your calls when the PGA season resumes and a certain local PGA player is doing well.  continued


I am so saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. Truly one of the most positive people I’ve ever had the privledge to know. One of my fondest memories with Steve was attending an NHL game here in Edmonton. It was an absolutely terrible game but Steve, made it enjoyable by just being Steve. He would randomly shout “Switch” (no idea why) but it was very well heard by the quiet, annoyed crowd. I laughed every time. The smile on his face was infectious. God bless you Steve. Steve was always just the coolest guy. I met him in 2009 when I started working at Spanish Trail as a cart kid. He had the Rodney Dangerfield Caddyshack bag back then I think. I remember Cheese introducing me to him saying “this is one of the good guys”. Steve always treated the cart kids great (not all members do) and as I got to know him better we’d go play 9 holes once in a while. He introduced me to a lot of the “cool” members and we started playing more golf together. I eventually joined the club and Steve became a really great friend. We were both Notre Dame fans so we watched a bunch of (usually bad) football together. My wife Jill loved him (didn’t all the wives love him?) and he loved seeing our boy Joey running around the club. I’ll always remember his reaction when we told him we were having a kid. He was so excited and proud. I love the guy and I don’t think I’ve ever met a more popular, loved person in my life. My life goal will be to go back and watch all of his chipping clinics and hope that I can one day have “the best hands in the club”. See you soon pal.

I feel so lucky to have called Steve my friend for over 35 years.  No one lit up a room like he did.  That smile of his was infectious.  Always humor and a little mischief.  Will and I will miss him dearly.  I am very sad he is gone, I know I will not have another friend like him in my lifetime.  Heaven just got whole lot happier!

Steve Laman,

It all started during Creswell’s golf trip to the Monterey Peninsula--Pebble Beach.  That first night in Downtown Monterey…..dinner, “frog dog”, the near altercation you had in the middle of the street, and tons of laughs.  I came home and told Tiffany that “I was going to be friends with Steve Laman…..this friend of Cris’ whom I met on the trip.  He was fun, witty, and a good guy.  I was going to be his friend.”

And, it happened.  And, it has been awesome.  Every bit of it.  Even the days when I wanted to yell at you….and those that I did yell at you…..every moment.  I wont ever trade any of it…..

I have been reading the words that others have been writing about you….about their experiences with you.  And, each message is special.  You touched most every person with whom you came in contact.  Your industry connections….and there are many…..all those people who had to listen to your “Lamanomics;” your childhood friends……your golf friends……your huge family…..everyone says the same thing…..Steve made me smile, he made me laugh, he made me feel better about myself and my world.

You are that guy.  So much of my past 15 years have had you so closely connected to them…..from our dogs, to our gals, to our golf trips, to UNLV BB games or VGK hockey…the concerts, the UFC……to just hanging out on a Saturday watching college football.  And, all the golf….at Spanish, at Southern, at Montreaux, at the Country Club….anywhere we went, we always had a great time together.

I think back to last Summer, in June, when we spent the day at the US Open……again, at Pebble Beach.  It was our last trip together.  And we had another great day…..like we always did.  Go figure.

Steve, I will miss you more than can be imagined.  I will think about you always and often.  I will smile many times when I think of your comments, your antics, and your willingness to do or try almost anything...thank you for all that, and all the great memories we shared.  Love you, DOTCOM!

Steve was the first slot sales person I met when I arrived at Palace Station in 1998, of course there is a funny story to go along with that as you can imagine!  He always brought a smile to my face and made me laugh.   He was a great guy and never changed over the years. He will truly be missed.  Rest in peace my friend.

Steve was a great man.  I have memories along with two other close friends when we used to go to the Las Vegas Club.  Steve along with other great people at the Las Vegas Club were always kind, fun to talk to, and always made sure we were happy with our time in Las Vegas at the hotel & casino. Stevie was a wonderful little brother.  I remember how he and Kenny used to torment and tease me when I had  party's at 820 Hogan, Stevie would hide all the alcohol brought to the party in the back room. So many great memories of a great guy! From our time together in Curtis Halls motorhome fly fishing the Green river to the 3 weeks ago when he called me to Plan a fishing trip. He always brought a smile to my face and asked me how I was doing he had a caring heart i will always think of him and smile. I will pray for his family and friends to find peace in his great memories. Your will never be forgotten buddy.

Steve and I first met at Fremont Jr. High. We worked together for Jackie Gaughan for years. He had the greatest smile and personality. Great times with Laman! I will truly miss him. I hope he is playing a round of golf with our friend Dan Bisek, that passed last month. Until we meet again my friend!

You had a visor to match every bathing suit.  You made me laugh till I cried.  Our kiddos had the best memories of all those epic family vacations.  You were so flipping special to the Kaszupski Family.  Until we meet again .com... 

Steve was a great teammate and had an awesome  smile. He was always smiling no matter what was going on. Ran into him after his stroke about 8 months ago and it was great to see him.  He was very pleasant and we had a quick conversation. Wish i would have taken more time now but both of us were i believe  working. We played o golf team together at Clark and he always was there to help. RIP my friend. Prayers to his family you will  be missed.

I’ve known Steve my entire career. He and I shared so many parallels in our personal and professional lives. I give him credit in vouching for me during the MGM Mandalay Bay merger. He and I recently talked about our resets in our careers to gain focus on what is important. He dreamed of traveling the US and fishing along the way while he sold product to the industry.  Rest In Peace Pal.  

I met Steve in the early 90’s while working at a downtown casino. I spent many hours on the golf links with him and he was one of the finest amateur golfers I have ever had the pleasure to play with. 
At one of my annual Christmas parties he stop by and left only to return two more times during the night bringing his infectious laugh and humor with him.

Stevie and I met in the early 80’s on a ski trip with his brother Patrick. Had an outstanding time , as you all can imagine!!! He always had a great time, and  absolutely loved meeting new people, and making them new friends.

I had some amazing fly fishing trips with Steve up in the mountains of Utah. We always spent most of the time laughing. I remember him falling in the river one day and filling his waiters to the top with water. We couldn't stop laughing. He was the best and I will miss my friend. Love and Prayers to the family.
