Sidney "Sid" Butcher

Sidney Monroe Butcher, Jr., 78, a retired air traffic controller of Las Vegas passed away November 14, 2013. He was born July 31, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Sumner High School, then joined the US Air Force and served for 4 years during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Air Force, he became an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement. Before Sidney had retired and relocated with his wife, Queen to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1992, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Redlands University in Irvine, California. Sidney was a very high energetic person who always had a joke followed by a big smile, a friendly hand shake and a big hug. He loved people especially his family and friends and celebrating with them on any occasion was usually an opportunity to make him the life of the party; however, there was more to Sidney. He was a believer and a Christian. He was a member of Mountaintop Faith Ministries where he and his wife attended regularly until he began his fight with cancer. He was a man who fought the good fight of faith, but he lost the battle with cancer. Sidney leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 34 years, Queen Butcher; two sons, Bradley and Stewart “Mike” Butcher; daughter, Sandra Butcher; three grandchildren, Verline, Tyler and Tamara; brother, Abram (Mattie) Butcher; sister, Mary Anderson; nieces, Pamela, Yvette, Claudia, Ramona, Rhonda, Mildred and Vicki; nephews, Abram, Jr. and Raymond; in-laws, Shirley (Joe) Jefferson, Candace (Alex) Brumfield, Millicent Jefferson and Jamie (Ivory) Lewis. A visitation will be held at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV on Monday, November 25th from 2-4pm. A graveside service will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV on Tuesday, November 26th at 12pm.
