I will forever cherish the memory of flying to Orange County every summer from the age of seven until I turned twenty-one years old. I remember going to Corona Del Mar, tumbling in huge waves and pretending not to hear grandma calling us for lunch because we wanted to keep swimming. Driving home from the beach was even a fond memory, sitting on towel in the backseat with scratchy sand in our bathing suits.  We all loved to sit on the arm rest of the Oldsmobile before seat belts were a law. We went out on the boat often, catching lots of fish.  The famous pink bucket that only us cousins know about, still makes me laugh to this day. If you knew grandma well, you respected her for her above average cleanliness and you never argued with her insisting we be hosed off in the backyard after a long beach day. Grandma could sew like no other, she would make us girls matching dresses and stuffed dolls.  She always allowed us to have fancy tea party’s in the “no touch” room and play dress up. Sleeping in the pink room, was like being a princess.  We would make doll houses out of cardboard boxes and stay outside until it was lunch or dinner time. We climbed the foothills just down the street, that is now overgrown with houses.  We climbed the tree in her backyard and ate plums from the Plum tree that grandpa planted. Breakfast was always ready when you got out of bed. Grandma would be fully dressed, make-up and all. She would buy Trix cereal and Raisin Bran and it never tasted so good! We had dessert every night, mint chocolate chip ice cream, one cookie or a piece of homemade cake. Then came the air popcorn maker, that became our new favorite dessert. 
Grandma’s love for her family is what I am most thankful for.  She knew the value in family and keeping everyone together. She loved us all unconditionally. I will forever be grateful for her having a hand in molding me into the person I am today. 


My favorite memories were of grandma in the kitchen. Weather it was making meals for the holiday we were celebrating or just baking. It always seemed she was in there. Oh and all the matching clothes and dresses she would make for all of us. I am very grateful that I inherited her baking and sewing skills. She was so thrilled when I had told her that I was sewing and working of a quilt. She said she was happy that one of the girls picked up that hobby.
