Nevada with her children by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Leondus Holst Ill (Buzzy) on March 18, 2022 and her youngest son Wallace Leondus Holst IV (Lee) on August 26, 1996.
Shirley was born December 13, 1934 in Marysville, Kansas to Dennis Harold Kearney and Jewell Alley
Kearney. Her family later moved to a farm in Peculiar, Missouri. She had one younger brother, Douglas
Kearney (deceased). She was a graduate of Peculiar High School. Later she attended and earned her degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.
In 1956 she became a Stewardess for Frontier Airlines. She was briefly stationed in Denver, Colorado, but
shortly transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah. There she met the love of her life Buzzy. They were married on
November 30, 1957. They have resided in Las Vegas, Nevada for the past sixty-five years. She is survived by her children Dennis (Loretta), Krist, Stacey (Jim), nine grandchildren, and multiple great grandchildren.
As a veteran businesswoman, Shirley was co-owner of the Holst Company, a retailing business company
with her husband Buzzy. She was active in a variety of civic, educational and community endeavors
including: Service League (President 1968-69) which later became Junior League of Las Vegas, Discovery Children's Museum - trustee, Member of the National Association of State Councils on Vocational Education, President of the Governor's Conference for Women Advisory Board, Member of the Nevada State Career Information Policy Board, Member of the Federal Relations Network, and Member of The Boulder Dam Area Council Scouting Advisory Board.
Shirley was very passionate about education. She was elected to the Clark County School Board for two
four-year terms from 1980 - 1988. During her eight years on the Board, she spent four of those years as its President.
In 1985 Shirley was selected by the Nevada Mothers Association as the "Nevada Mother of the Year." She was also the first recipient of the Women of Achievement Award for Civic Endeavors presented by the Chamber of Commerce. Finally, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the Clark County Parks Advisory Commission.
Shirley loved watching basketball and the "Kansas City Chiefs" football team was always in her heart! She
was a wonderful, loving Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother who will truly be missed by all!
