Sharon Arnet Matlock was born on August 28, 1961 to Julius and Ida Mae Matlock in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the youngest of seven children and made it known that she was the “baby girl” of the family (a title she wore well). Sharon graduated from Western High School in June of 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, she completed two years at Community College of Southern Nevada. While in school she was active in sports and loved running track.
Sharon loved her family dearly and was like a mother to her nieces and nephews. She became the godmother of Chardonnay Sanders, when she was a baby. Sharon made precious investments in Chardonnay’s life by giving of her time, resources, teaching, and simply how she modeled her life. These investments in Chardonnay’s life are precious, priceless, and timeless.
Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She grew up in church and was always very active. For many years Sharon was a member of the Greater Saint James Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Donell Horn, Sr. She was a member of the Mass Choir at St. James, and thoroughly enjoyed singing and giving her praises to the Lord. Later, she joined Calvary Southern Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Jaffus L. Haley. While attending Calvary, she grew greatly in her learning and understanding of the word of God. She was involved in the Singles Ministry, a member of the Women’s Enrichment Ministry, and helped and supported the Children’s Church Ministry. Sharon loved worshiping and praising God and experiencing His presence. She even displayed the title “Exalt Him” on her license plate.
Sharon worked in the field of customer service for many years. She was employed at Sprint Telephone Company as a Customer Service Representative. Her final job was working for Livanta, LLC as a Patient Service Representative. She would often share with her family how she was concerned about the patients that called in seeking to submit Medicare appeals. Sharon shared how she would often go above and beyond to try to help those on the other end of the call, even if it was just to provide a listening ear.
Sharon’s personality was contagious. She loved people and became a friend to many. She put her life on hold and cared for her elderly father. Sharon ensured he lived comfortably in his home until his earthly departure at the age of 99 years. She also helped other seniors in the community by transporting them to appointments and grocery stores, assisting with their business, and taking meals to others. God used her greatly in the areas of compassion, helping others, and building relationships.
Sharon enjoyed life, had a sense of humor, and was often on the go. She traveled, loved sports, and simply loved being active.
Sharon loved God and her family. She was faithful to her work in the Lord whether in church, on her job, or in her daily walk of life. God used her in a mighty way, and as a result many people were touched by her life.
The appointed time for Sharon Arnet Matlock to pass from labor to reward was January 4, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory, goddaughter Chardonnay Sanders; siblings Barbara Butler (Jimmy), Marvin Matlock (Kathy), Melvin Matlock (Julia), Terry Smith (Gia), Debra Proctor, Shirley Hawkins (Johnny); godson Jason Dozier-Seals, special sister/friend Faye Stone, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
