Sandra (Sandy) Elaine McClelland, 85, long-time resident of Las Vegas, passed away at home on February 28, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. She was born December 17, 1938, in Michigan to the late Clifford and Mary Wrathell. She was the second oldest of seven children.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Clayton Wrathell, Tom Wrathell; and sisters, Tootie Monohan, Betty Slingerland; her husband, Patrick Thomas McClelland, and her son, Michael Patrick Kearney.
She moved to California in the early 60’s and received a certificate in Purchasing from UCLA. She moved to Las Vegas in 1970 and worked at the Nevada Test site and Reynolds Electrical and Engineering Company in Las Vegas as a Senior Buyer for over 25 years. She was the first female president of the Purchasing Management Association. Retiring from REECo, she then ran her own bookshop, Sandy’s Book Shoppe in Boulder City until her mother needed full-time care.
Sandy was a woman of faith, loved her family, traveling, good food, going to the movies and reading. She was very active in her church, and various groups including Tombstone Players, Comstock Company performing old western skits, President of Church Women United, and in the Red Hat Society. She was on the go planning events, helping others, praying over the sick and always remembered a birthday or holiday through beautifully written letters and cards.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Montana (Barrett); grandchildren, Brian (Abby) Montana and Brittany (Daniel) Montana and two brothers, Don (Deanna) Wrathell and John Wrathell.
A memorial service will be held at Community of Christ Church, 5400 W. Oakey Blvd. on March 23, 2024, at 2 PM. A graveside service is being planned in Port Sanilac, Michigan, date to be determined.
