Sam was born May 20, 1937 in White Castle, Louisiana to the union of Sam and Velma Taylor. He graduated from Iberville High School in 1956, after spending his sophomore and junior high school years at Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
After graduating from high school, in 1956 Sam served his country by joining the United States Air Force. He served overseas in Germany and North Africa where he learned to be an electronic technician. In 1961 he returned to the United States and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada until he was honorably discharged in 1964.
While in Las Vegas, he met Dorothy York. On December 22, 1963 Sam and Dorothy married and together started a family. After Sam was honorably discharged from the Air Force he worked for EG&G, a contractor at the Nevada test site, until he retired as a technical supervisor in 1997.
In retirement he and Dorothy enjoyed spending time with their sons, daughter’s in law and their four grandchildren. Sam coached youth sports and once more served his community by serving on the North Las Vegas Planning Commission for several years. When Dorothy struggled through two bouts of cancer and then Parkinson’s disease, Sam became Dorothy’s strength and personified devotion, support and true love by selflessly and tirelessly caring for Dorothy. Sam gained most fulfillment in being at home around family where he loved to garden, barbecue, listen to blues music and enjoy the occasional Miller Lite. Sam’s sons and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of his kind spirit, passion for debating sports, and devotion to family will live on through each of them. Sam will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.
Sam is now reunited with his wife Dorothy, parents Sam Taylor and Velma Perry, sister Vivian Hampton, and brother Curtis Taylor. Sam is survived by his two sons and their spouses Vernon (Jennifer) and Robert (Melissa) Taylor; brothers Gerald Taylor and Joseph Taylor; sisters Betty Sanders and Delores Foster; sister-in-law Colleen Wilson; god-daughter Mahlia Posey; and four grandchildren Samantha Taylor, Reece Taylor, Donovan Taylor, and Nicole Taylor.
