I met Ryan Lipparelli when I was a delegate to the American Legion Nevada Boys' State civic leadership conference in 2014. Ryan was among my city's counselors. I was a 17-year-old rising senior in high school, while Ryan would have been 20.

I particularly remember my first meeting after having been elected to be my city's Assemblyman. I was in the Assembly, preparing to caucus to become Speaker since our party held the majority. I didn't know much about the Speaker position but for some reason felt like running. We started caucusing. My speeches weren't excellent nor was I trying too hard to get guys over to my corner of the room. But I think it was Ryan who noticed me and called me over to where he was sitting. He asked me with a bit of confusion what I was doing, described a bit about the power of the position then gave me a pep talk. I felt surprised! He had more confidence in me than me. After that I tried a little harder to caucus. But, I accepted my loss. I still enjoyed my time. 

I became a counselor for Nevada Boys' State the next session in 2015 and again in 2016. As a counselor, I'd always tried to channel a bit from my own counselors' perspectives. Then I started studying abroad in 2017 and 2018, serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer 2019 till COVID-19 evacuated us home and canceled Boys' State 2020.

The first year I could return to Boys' State was 2021. This year especially, I felt like I channeled Ryan as a counselor. I was 23 then, participating in a virtual program combining California and Nevada. There was a delegate with whom I worked closely on the news team because he became editor-in-chief like I was. His city elected him too to the Assembly, and he was thinking of running for Speaker. He sought advice. So, over Slack, I messaged about the time I ran for Speaker. I told him about my experience. His peers elected him Speaker. And his name, too, was Ryan. 

I'm touched by the lives that Ry has impacted. He's certainly impacted mine. God bless. 

I was one of Ryan’s CCD teachers from first grade until 8th grade. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. We always smiled when he was around. I also remember how he and Malia shared secret crushes! God bless you Ryan. Rest In Peace and may God comfort your family and encircle them in love. Praying for you and your family.

Ryan was one of the guys that I was convinced would have it for life. I haven't seen him for a year or so, but the last time I did he was beaming from ear to ear - he seemed so happy with the life that he was making for himself.  I was absolutely in awe of that. I wish and pray for comfort and peace for his family - his parents, his sister. To you, the family, I would say that he spoke of all of you in such high regard. 

I learned from him in life, and knowing our shared struggles, I can confidently say that I have learned from him in death as well. I am sure many who met him in his 2+ years in Arizona can say the same.



I remember watching all the NBA playoffs of 2016 in the back patio of ABT With you. You are an awesome dude and you helped out lots of people, more people than you realized. You are gone but you are not forgotten. Love you bro

I met Ryan February 14th 2016, a day I will never forget and a day that we will always have in common.  Even though Ryan was a few years younger than me, I admired the person that he was. He had a way of always knowing what to say, always being the greatest friend and always genuinely caring about others. My heart aches for his family, for his little sister; whom he loved so very very much. 

I have known Ryan since elementary school. I remember when we were in Mr. Campbell’s class in 5th grade and he opened up my eyes to the many faces you can draw on a round eraser... a silly memory, but it’s one that stuck... he was light-hearted and kind, I am grateful to have known him and devastated for the loss of this great man. My prayers are with the whole family. 

I am so very sorry for Ryan's death.  I knew him from the Fellowship in Scottsdale and I thought he was the best....so passionate, energetic and fun.  I was so upset when I heard about his death...many of those who knew him will always remember that smile, and that tenacity.  My prayers are with you all.  Sherry Simmons, Scottsdale, AZ
