Roxanne Beverly Nystrom was born on June 7, 1944 in Greybull, Wyoming to Walter “Scott” Nystrom and Zona Cockrell. She is survived by her siblings Rebecca Nystrom, DC and Kix Nystrom.
She graduated Cody High School in 1962 and then attended Bethel School of Nursing. She married Major Ronald Murrell Kautz in 1964 and had daughter, Katy Kautz, DC (Kenneth E Smith) of Osage Beach, MO, son, Peter “Kevin” Kautz (Celeste A Transue) of Las Vegas and stepdaughter, Christi Lazaroff of Las Vegas. She has 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Roxanne specialized in psychiatric nursing at Valley Hospital. She then worked for WestCare and became a certified BADA (Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse) counselor. She finished her career at Clark County Health Department doing TB/HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, and counseling. She retired on 10/4/2011 - “10-4 over and out” after serving for several decades as an inspiration to many in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. After her retirement she became an active CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer where she continued her lifelong journey of empowering women and children.
She enjoyed frequent family and social gatherings, traveling the world, working in her yard, bridge and other games, wood working and bubbles.
Our hearts are spilling over as we celebrate the amazing example Roxanne was to all who knew her. She was a true warrior during the last part of her earthly journey as she battled peritoneal cancer. She remained ever positive and continued to share her joy, love of life and deep lessons with all those she loved.
