Ronald George Ross passed away in Las Vegas on February 1, 2022. Born in Campbellford, Ontario to George and Lois Ross, he moved with them to California at young age, where he later earned a degree in business from California State University, Sacramento. Following a stint in Germany with the U.S. Army, he travelled extensively through Europe in a VW bus that he won in a poker game, cementing a love of adventure that would carry through the rest of his life. He went on to earn his master’s in counseling at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, beginning a 28-year career as an educator, counselor, and administrator that included notable work with drug prevention programs and youth leadership training. In his work, as in all aspects of his life, he was highly admired and respected among friends and colleagues. He strived to help all those in need, whether it was a student struggling with academics or a friend who simply needed a little encouragement. In 1978, he met and married Sherry Lee Cox, thus beginning a beautiful and adoring marriage of 42 years that included two wonderful daughters, Jamie and Emily. Spending time with his loving family was one of the great joys of his life, and along with them, he continued to pursue that same love of adventure that he embraced in his younger years. He enjoyed traveling to lands near and far, his wanderlust taking him from the National Parks of the United States, to the lush tropics of Central America and Southeast Asia, and even to the chilly shores of Antarctica. Whether abroad or at home, he loved partaking in good food and wine and enjoying the wonders of nature, always with his friends and loved ones (and often his beloved pets) by his side. But more than any other pursuit, his love of sailing was impossible to deny. He was never more at home than on the water, feeling the wind in his sails, bouncing across the waves. It was a pursuit emblematic of the life he lived, a life of adventure and possibility, always in pursuit of some distant shore, some new horizon. Those who knew him and loved him were fortunate to share in his journey and will never forget all he achieved and all he meant to them.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
