He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Virginia (VanderPoel) Norton; his stepson, James Thomas Wilson, wife Leah and 2 grandchildren; sister, Marsha Gaddis of Topeka, Kansas, and sister Sharon Baker of Hermosa, South Dakota as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Richard K. Norton.
Born and raised in New Jersey, he was the son of Frederick Keithel Norton and Isabel Mosher-Norton. He graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School. As a youth, he worked on the family farm, was an avid 4-H horseman and tinkered rebuilding engines.
Earning a Mechanical Engineering degree from Kansas State University, he continued his education with multiple certificates for advanced training. He worked for Dart Truck/PACCAR traveling around the world. He eventually settled in Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked with REECO, Bechtel and National Security Technologies at the Nevada Test Site for 30 years.
He had a love for sportscars evidenced by the variety of cars he worked on and the “wallpaper” of autocross awards. He was a long-time member of the Las Vegas Chapter of SCCA.
His attention to detail was unsurpassed, a person of integrity and a treasure trove of knowledge. Mr. Norton was a loving husband and caring father who enjoyed all aspects of his adventurous life.
Mr. Norton was cremated and will be buried in a private ceremony in Weeping Water, Nebraska. Memorial gifts may be made to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas or the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
