I've also just learned of Ron's passing. Its few days before Christmas.   

I met Ron while he was computer hardware contractor for the Clarke county school district.  While stationed at Nellis, I was being trained as a Predator pilot in the new 11 Recon Sq , Ron introduced me to the Civil Air Patrol, Senior Squadron.  Ron was the Aerospace Education Officer at the time. He later earned his rank and became the squadron Legal Advisor and subsequently as legal advisor to the Nevada Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.  I quickly upgraded to Mission Pilot working with Ron and participating in monthly Search and Rescue excercises. Ron was a Mission Observer for me in many SAREX flights.  We spent many Friday evenings out for dinner or lunch at the Officers Club.   Ron will always be missed for his generosity and willingness to help friends and strangers. Ron had considerable knowledge in nearly every subject matter. He was a joy to debate with and joust about in any of life issues, including current events. Ron was a caring person for animals.  I admired how he pampered Beauty and Sweet Pie.   Ron will clearly be missed and NEVER forgotten.  Maybe you  be in God's care, dear Friend.

I have just heard of Ron's passing -- it is now October, 2011.  My thoughts are with his family and all of his friends.  Ron was such a unique and special person!  I always remember his sharp wit and wicked sense of humor.  Ron and I shared many fun times together back in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1980's.

     Ron, as we knew him, was a talented designer, attorney, university lecturer and computer expert who was very supportive of the UNLV College of Architecture, Construction and Planning from its beginning to final development and NAAB Accreditation.  During those years he was a lecturer for several architectural history courses: Cities and Buildings of the World, the Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, and the History of Landscape Architecture.

     Many of you will remember his support and attendance at the UNLV International Architecture Summer Program held at the Fontainebleau Chateau, France and the UCLA Historic Buildings Program at Cambridge University, UK.  Academically, Ron earned a BA in History, University of Nevada, Reno; the MBA & LL.B., School of Law, Santa Clara University; and the M. Design in Computer Graphics and Technology, Graduate School of Design, Harvard University.  

     Ron served his military obligation with the USAF in Viet Nam.  Later, his career focused on law, architecture, design and military information technology.  With his extensive academic, professional and computer expertise, he was selected to be a computer consultant to the Las Vegas School System and for the remainder of his career, he served for and received numerous commendations as Internet Administrator, Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada.

     We have lost not only a friend and classmate, but yet another talented member of the founding group of students, faculty and professionals who contributed so much to the establishment of Architecture, Construction Management, Design Technology, and Urban Planning for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 

     Our blessings and condolences are extended to his mother, Mildred and his brothers, nieces and nephews at this sad time.  Ron will always remain as a devoted friend to all who knew him for his brilliance, service and dedication to fine arts, architecture, design, law and information technology.

I want to express my sincere condolences to all of the Gomes family members on the loss of Ron. He was a wonderful friend. When he practiced law, he was my attorney, and I know that he had the highest professional and ethical standards. I worked with Ron for many years during the 1980s on the Board of Trustees of the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, and I much admired him for being so active in contributing his time and money to improving his community. He always had the highest love and loyalty for his family, friends, and country. We will miss this most versatile Renaissance man! Ron spoke often of his family; he was always very interested in what every member of his family was doing, and he loved and esteemed them all!

To my mother, brothers, friends of Ron,

I will always remember my brother for his good heart and quick mind. He always had a deep empathy for the underdog in any situation and always went out of his way to help. He will be missed. Goodby my brother.

Ron Gomes taught my son at age 8 to use a mouth stick to type. He put sticky keys on the keyboard so that everthing was perfect for my son. Ron loved our family and spending time here. I only wish I would have told him my son, now 22 is a successful business man still typing with the mouth stick. He not only touched a life he changed one.
