Ronald "Ron" John Assmann of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully on September 15,
2022 at University Medical Center Southern Nevada after complications from a lengthy recovery
following a broken hip and subsequent hip surgery in October, 2021.
Ron was born in Jefferson, Iowa to Alfonse and Elsie Assmann.
Ron did not attend college after high school but he found he loved the grocery business which led
to a career and life time employment in the beverage business. The impact he made on the Las
Vegas resort industry was to help develop recipes for frozen cocktail mixes. He and his business
partner Don, started Desert Isle Beverages. He and his partner were known as the Ron & Don
Show and they were extremely successful in developing their contracts.
Ron moved to Las Vegas and DJ joined him a few years later, where they resided for 32 years.
Ron and DJ traveled to several countries and enjoyed taking 27 cruises. Ron liked nice cars and
was meticulous in the care of his own vehicles. He loved to golf and play cards. Ron was well
liked and respected by everyone who were blessed to know him. All women loved his smile and
his expensive cologne. He enjoyed fine dining and drinking Sapphire Gin Martinis which lead to
DJ's family all giving him the nickname "Sapphire Ron." In his later years he enjoyed watching the PGA golf tournaments and old Western Movies and talking to DJ about everything they had done and shared over the years.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Debra, "DJ" as he preferred to call her. He is also
survived by his son Todd (Sally), ofMaui, HI; his sister Rita of Corpus Christie, TX; and his 3
grandchildren Steven, Brandon and Benjamin. Ron is survived by DJ's Mom, Marilyn, and by
DJ's 2 sons, Dave (Kim) and Mike and by DJ's 3 grandchildren, Sydney, Addison and Nicholas.
Ron is also survived by DJ's siblings, Steven (Cynthia), Thomas (Kathie), James (Jeannie),
Robert, Barbara (Mike) and Susan (Bradley). Ron is also survived by his children's mother,
Joyce as well as many cousins and dear friends.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Alfonse J. And Elsie Marie (nee Finken) Assmann and by
his 2 brothers, Thomas and Larry. Ron's beloved daughter Kimberly also predeceased him in
2000. Ron's father-in-law, Wayne, loved Ron and he passed away in 2007. Ron and DJ's rescue
furbaby, Foxie also predeceased him.
Ron's wishes were to be cremated and to have his ashes interred with Kimberly in Maui.
A Celebration of Ron's Life will take place at a later date.
