Roger was born in Mundelein, Illinois in 1931 to Mildred and Tracy Knight. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and proudly served his country for 22 years with the 405th Fighter Wing. While serving as a Master Sgt., he received numerous medals including two for Meritorious Service during the Vietnam Conflict. One in 1967 and one in 1969. His jobs in the Air Force included but were not limited to: Flightline Inspector and Fighter Jet Maintenance.
After retiring from the Air Force, he went on to receive his A.A. degree in Business Administration. He went to work as a Field Administrator for the County Animal Control.
He met his first wife June Banner in 1951 while working at Nellis Air Force Base and together they raised a family of six children of which he loved being an active father. After divorcing from June in 1973, he later remarried to Lucille Knight and remained with her until her passing.
Roger was known for being a benefactor to many charities throughout his lifetime. He was also an avid reader, sportsman and angler. He loved going on family camping trips and exploring new sites with every military transfer to places that included Spain and the Philippines.
Roger was preceded in death by his second wife Lucille Knight, his parents and 2 brothers: Bruce and Ted.
He is survived by his six children: Marcia Winters, Roger Knight II, Richard Knight, Carol Brown, Debra Carter and Robin Hatfield.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to: The Humane Society.
