Robert Lee Padero Teves, born July 10, 1946 at Silliman University Mission Hospital in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental Philippines. He died on November 15, 2022 at 76 years of age in Long Beach, CA due to complications of kidney failure brought on by non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis.
Robert (aka Bobby) lost his hearing in both ears at a young age as a result of water in his ears (unbeknownst to his parents) left untreated because he never complained. Despite his disability, under his father's guidance, Robert learned how to be an auto mechanic in his teenage years. This was his passion and he excelled in it. He built his first motorcycle at the age of 16. Robert also became his father's right hand man when it came to managing their 67 acre sugar cane farm. His honesty and kindness earned him the respect of his workers and trust of his father.
In October 19, 1974, Robert and Ludivina married. They were blessed with a daughter, Carolyn in December 1975, and many many years later with a son, Billandrew, in August 1995. Also in Jan 1995, he gained a son in law, Michael, followed by his first grandchild, Beau Michael in April 1995, and many many years later in December 2014, his second grandchild, Zoie Mikaela.
He moved to the US in 1977 with his mom, brothers, and sisters. His wife and daughter, then followed in early 1980's, where they lived in New Jersey. In 1990 they drove cross country, with the help of his sister Margo, to Bellflower, CA in order to be closer to family and pursue his chosen career in being an auto mechanic.
Robert's retirement years were spent traveling between California and Las Vegas to visit family, especially to play or tease his granddaughter Zoie, who he enjoyed making mad by constantly taking her favorite blanket. After his first heart attack, Robert permanently stayed in Las Vegas where he lived with his family. He then traveled back and forth from the US to Philippines until his Alzheimer's began.
Robert lived a long and blessed life. He believed in God, prayed, and even donated to churches in his own way, in what he thought was right, in how he could best understand Christ due to his hearing impairment. Fortunately, he was not made to endure his disease for too long. His suffering in life and his suffering prior to his passing was brief. In Bobby's last few days he was cared for by his wife Ludi. In his last few hours he was surrounded by family and close friends. In his last few minutes his family and friends gathered around his bed, held hands and prayed over him, surrendering him to our Lord and Savior. Surrounded by family and close friends, with his daughter holding his hand, Bobby passed away peacefully.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Franco and Florence Teves; his brother, Frank Teves; and his sister, Janice Teves. He is survived by his wife, Ludivinia Catacutan; his daughter, Carolyn Delapaz; his son, Billandrew Teves; son-in-law, Michael Delapaz; grandchildren, Beau Michael and Zoie Mikaela Delapaz; sisters, Jessie Limbaga, Brynn Almonte, Margo Teves, and Donna Teves; and his brother, Johnny Teves. Funeral arrangements and services entrusted to Palm Southwest Mortuary. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmsouthwest.com for the Teves family.
