Dr. Robert Gilmer Ridenour passed away on March 26, 2011 at the age of 80, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he attended East Tech High School prior to entering the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service he returned to Cleveland to pursue his education at Kent State, transferring to Wilberforce University where he received his undergraduate degree. He received his M.S. and Ed.D. at the University of Cincinnati and pursued a career in education and counseling in Cincinnati, Ohio; Santa Barbara, Lompoc and Orange, California; Germany, Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan until his retirement in 1996. He moved to Las Vegas in 1998. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, former President of the WUAA Dynamic Las Vegas Chapter, a member of the local AARP, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Inter-Alumni Council (UNCF). Bob was a lover of basketball, having played during his college years, an avid golfer playing at courses throughout the U.S., Germany, Korea and Japan, and a staunch supporter of the Cleveland Browns. His infectious smile and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Lois; Sons, Anthony, Lionel and Kevin Ridenour; Step-son, Brian Johns; Step-daughter, Alison Johns; Grandchildren, Desmond, Hailey, Gina and Lelani Ridenour, Rafael Johns; and a host loving friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 13, 2011 at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 North Jones Blvd (Jones & 215)
