He was born March 26, at US Army Hospital at Fort Huachuca, Arizona
He was the son of Sterling Akers and Delia S. Akers
He graduated from Las Vegas High School and attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas
Surviving family members are his father Sterling Akers of Overton, Nevada, his mother Delia S. Akers of Las Vegas, Nevada. His sisters Delia M. Turner of Tennessee, Alexis Sanchez and Priscilla Sanchez of Las Vegas, His nephews and niece: Stevie Lontz of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karina Gonzalez of Las Vegas, NV & Cayden Cromer of Las Vegas, NV
His aunts: Julie Rowe and Husband Ron of Las Vegas, Cruz Sanchez of Las Vegas, Josie Sanchez of Phoenix, Arizona, Trinidad Sanchez of Las Vegas and Mago Sanchez Moreno. His uncles: Juan Carlos Sanchez of Las Vegas, Lucas Sanchez of Las Vegas and Rene Sanchez of Las Vegas. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grand-parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Robert’s father was in the army and as a result the family moved quiet often. As a child he was a gifted athlete playing both soccer and baseball. He was Most Valuable Player in both sports and helped his teams to championships. He also became a huge sports fan especially when the Dallas Cowboys are concerned. After his father left the army they moved to Las vegas where Robert graduated from high school in 1990 after graduation he went to work in a restaurant at the Excalibur. Later he went to work at the Mirage writing tickets for sports wagers. He eventually worked in several casinos and was working in management at the Circa making wager odds on various sports.
Robert was an adventurous person who once ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain and went sky diving. Robert was all about family and did everything in his power to be there for his loved ones. He showed us what love and sacrifice really meant.
Robert leaves behind numerous loving family members and friends. He will be missed by all.
Services will be held Palm Mortuary at 7600 Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas on October 18, with viewing from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon.
