Richard Lawrence Stanton was born on February 11, 1923 to the union of Richard Stanton Sr and Doshia Harris, in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended elementary and high school in Kansas city. He was an outstanding athlete. He received awards in swimming and football ans well as silver and gold medals in track. After graduating from high school, he received a football scholarship from Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Richard served in the U.S. Army in World War II. After his army tour of duty, he moved to California where he lived for many years, working for Hughes Aircraft. Later, he moved to Las Vegas and became a member of Zion Methodist Church. He loved music and watching his favorite TV shows; Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, Family Feud, Reverend Joel Olsteen, and Reverend Charles Stanley. He looked forward to his daily bible reading. He was quite a gentleman who willingly helped anyone in need. Celebrating fond memories of his life are sisters Frances Wynn, and Kristee (Jeff) Legette of Kansas City, MO.; his wife of 11 years, Shirley Kirksey; son Jerry Carr; Rachel and Billy Smith; Muriel Blackburn; Robert Harris of Delaware; Samuel Harris Sr of Independence MO; Sheila Clark of Pasadena, CA; Eddie and Cathy Washington; Lisa Flurage; Donald McAllister; Daryl and Tina McAllister, and a host of other relatives and friends.
