Richard Rawson was born April 15, 1934 in Gardiner, Maine and died November 3, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He fought a courageous four -year battle with cancer before he went back home to the Lord. Richard was a loving husband, and devoted father and grandfather and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geneva. He is also survived by sons Bryan (Connie) and Paul (Sara), and grandchildren Keith, Mark, Kathryn and Andrea.
After growing up in Gardiner, Richard moved to California where he and Geneva met, married and enjoyed family life for 45 years in Van Nuys, California. He retired as a telecommunications trainer from Lucent Technologies in 1999 after enjoying a 46-year career that started at Western Electric as an installer and progressed through AT&T and Lucent Technologies as a trainer. Prior to marriage and career, Richard served two years as an electronics technician in the US Army (1956-1958). Richard and Geneva moved to Las Vegas in 1999, where he was a very active resident in the El Paseo community, holding several leadership positions on the homeowners’ board. Richard and Geneva quickly acclimated to Las Vegas, enjoying local theater and musical events, and treating visitors to the beauty of Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire and Zion National Park. Activities, hobbies and service commitments that Richard loved included traveling and cruising, square dancing, genealogical research, family camping, gardening, woodworking, and being Scoutmaster for sons Bryan and Paul.
All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Three Square of Southern Nevada or any cancer research organization.
