Richard Lynn Kilburn, 78, passed on April 4 with family by his side. Richard was born in Long Beach, CA to Dorothy Francis Bevel and Erol Kilburn, Jr. He graduated high school in Tonopah, NV and afterward joined the Navy. He spent 20 years in the navy, mostly on the east coast in places such as Philadelphia, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Avoca and 15 months in Cairo, Egypt. Upon his retirement from the Navy, Richard moved to Tonopah, NV to start his long career in the healthcare industry. Richard spent the next 30 years working in hospital administration in various hospitals around Nevada, including in Las Vegas and rural communities like Tonopah, Ely and Elko. In 2012, Richard retired from hospital administration and began his retired life in areas close to the beach like the Outer Banks, NC and Lady Lakes, Florida. Richard came back to Las Vegas in 2021 to enjoy the sun and golfing. Richard loved the beach, golfing, new cars and his family. He was often found telling a new joke to his family around the dinner table and took great pride in his five children- Stephanie Kohn (Joe), Mark Kilburn (Heather), Kristen Norby (Joseph), Braeden Kilburn (Kaela) and Ryan Kilburn. He especially loved his grandchildren and kept up to date on their activities and interests. Richard leaves behind 5 children,10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Francis Bevel, father Erol Kilburn, Jr, and sisters Karen O’Leary and Sylvia Shearer. As Richard would say- “mistakes have been made but overall it was a good life”. He was well loved and will be terribly missed.
