It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Denny Gaston, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Rick departed this world on July 1, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories. He was 61 years old.
Born on April 7, 1962, in Santa Monica, California, to Richard Carlton Watts and Sharon Ann Kubricky, Rick was a spirited soul from the start. His adventurous spirit led him on a journey through life, including regular business trips to Japan and Korea. Living in the serene landscapes of California to the scenic beauty of Oregon, Rick finally found his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he settled with his wife.
Rick was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 32 years, Michelle Gaston, and their union was a testament to enduring love and unwavering commitment. Together, they weathered the storms of life and shared countless joyful moments. Rick's love for Michelle knew no bounds, and he cherished her as his partner, confidante, and best friend. Family was at the core of Rick's being, and he was a doting father to his two children, Ryan and Mackenzie Gaston. Ryan, along with his wife Taly and their daughter Penelope, brought immeasurable happiness to Rick's life. His granddaughter Penny held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in every moment spent with her. Mackenzie, his daughter, brought a sense of pride and joy to Rick's life through her accomplishments and the warmth and sensitivity she brought to their family.
Rick embraced life with a zestful spirit, embodying the adage "Work Hard, Play Hard." His dedication and work ethic were unwavering, and he found fulfillment in his professional endeavors with Nikon. Where he has been an instrumental part of their team for over 20 years. During his time at Nikon, he has worked on building relationships with vendors, pursuing innovative engineering solutions for the transport of equipment, leading first of a kind projects, and mentoring those who sought his advice, but his heart was really into anything involving designing and problem solving. Anyone could call him up to discuss a mechanical or design issue, and he would throw himself into the project wholeheartedly, never stopping until the project was completed.
However, he also understood the importance of enjoying life's pleasures. Rick had a passion for riding his motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the open road beneath him. It was on these rides that he found solace and moments of serenity. But above all else, Rick cherished time spent with his family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. In his youth he loved fixing up and driving his 1969 Camaro with his friends and would do burnouts in front of his high school in Santa Barbara, and always had a special place in his heart for his grandpa Gaston who he had many memories with.
To honor Rick's vibrant spirit, a celebration of his life, titled "Putting 'Fun' Back in Funeral," will be held on July 15, 2023, at 10:30 AM at 3369 N. Thom Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131. Prior to the event, a motorcycle escort will lead the way, gathering at 9:30 AM at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89130. Rick's family invites all those who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Animal Foundation, a cause that Rick held close to his heart. By contributing to this organization, we can continue his legacy of compassion and love for all creatures great and small.
