He was born in Lake City, Arkansas in 1943 to Raymond and Golvie Moore. He graduated from Selah High School in Washington in 1961. He loved football and was crowned “Mr. Touchdown” at home coming. He then came to Las Vegas to work for Southwest Gas.
Ray was with the U. S. Army, 69th Artillery Group from 1964-1966 and was stationed in Germany. Upon completion of duty, he applied to and was accepted for employment with the Clark County Fire Department in August 1968.
On June 15,1975 he graduated from the C.C. Community College with honors for Fire Science and Fire Service Management. On July 1,1975 he was a member of the first group of graduating Paramedics in the State of Nevada, where only eight of which were from CCFD. He became Paramedic coordinator for CCFD from 1981-1991. He was a member of the CCHD Medical Advisory Board, the American Heart Association Board 1981, a Certified EMS Instructor from 1976-1991, as well as being involved in numerous other boards.
Ray rose in rank to Captain in 1980 where his first official assignment was with Station 11 the morning of the MGM Grand Hotel.
He was always doing the cooking at the stations and was jokingly given the nick name “Mother”! He participated in many of the Police vs. Firefighter games. In May of 1992, he was a member of the Board of Directors for the 2nd World Firefighter Games, helping his brother Francis Moore bring the games for the first time to the United States.
Ray retired in March of 1998 after serving 28+ years with the Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth (BJ)Moore of Las Vegas, sons Kevin (Chad) of Washington, Nathan of Las Vegas, stepchildren Justin Pulsipher (Jenni) and Riana McGoldrick (Matt) both of Las Vegas. He has four grandchildren; Dre Beynon, Grayson, Gavin and Brenna Moore, two step grandchildren Tristan Pulsipher and Kurtis McGoldrick and three great grand-children Gabriel and Scarlett Beynon, Blair Moore, and his brother Francis Moore of Las Vegas (retired CCFD Engineer and Arson Investigator)
Ray was predeceased by his father Raymond, mother Golvie, and sisters Rebecca Sue Thompson and Cherry Lee Alvers.
Burial will be held at Palm Eastern Cemetery on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11 am.
