Petra D. Gonzalez

Petra “Pat” Gonzalez, 89, long-time resident of Las Vegas, died peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Petra was the loving wife of Jose P. Gonzalez for 66 years and loving mother to three daughters and their families: Lillian Gonzalez-Roig and partner Janet Deely of Cedar Knolls, NJ; Estelle Murphy-Bianchi and husband Bill Bianchi of Las Vegas, NV; and Dora Goldsmith and husband Dave Goldsmith of Rockaway, NJ. Petra is known as “Nana” to four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and to a dozen other children who she helped raise and with whom she shared her love and welcomed into her extended family. She leaves behind many friends and acquaintances whom she easily befriended. In early adulthood Petra was an educator in her native Cuba, with a life-long interest in mathematics. In her middle years, she was Quality Control Supervisor at Charms Candy Company in New Jersey. After retiring from Charms she moved to Las Vegas where she provided in-home daycare and tutoring for neighborhood children. She lived well and loved well and will be sorely missed. A visitation will be held at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday January 22nd. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 10:00 am at 6701 N Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Safe Nest at PO Box 43264, LV, NV 89116.
