

PETER JOHN SAVARINO Peter John Savarino, beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at Saint, Rose Hospital in Henderson, Nevada on August 14 at the age of 92 years. Peter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jewel Savarino of Henderson, Nevada. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph Savarino of Coralville, Iowa; his son, George M. (Savarino) Dawson, of Santa Clara, California; daughter Jeanne M. Pesch of Las Vegas, Nevada; and daughter, Janet A. Trimmer, of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren, Jesse Dawson, Steven Dawson, Julie Pesch, John Pesch, Ryan Smith, Stacy Mealin, and Jason Smith. Peter is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Peter was born on May 24, 1922 in western, Pennsylvania to Angelo and Josephine Savarino, and was raised in Youngstown, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1944 with a degree in business and accounting. Peter and his wife Jewel were married on July 1, 1951. Following their marriage, Peter and Jewel settled in Southern California where Peter's career included executive financial positions with Arthur Young; Financial Indemnity Corporation; American savings and Loan; and Guarantee Savings and Loan. During the early 1950's, they welcomed their three children into their home, where they were raised in Alhambra, California, and Fresno, California. Peter's three children and seven grandchildren remember him as a very loving and caring father/grandfather, whose family was of utmost importance and priority in his life. Peter and Jewel subsequently moved to San Luis Obispo, California and then to Henderson, Nevada in 2005. In addition to the love he had for his family, Peter was a devout man with strong ties to the St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church in San Luis Obispo, California and St. Francis Parish in Henderson, Nevada. Peter had diverse interests that included but were not limited to water skiing, bowling, horseback riding, ping pong and other athletics; home movies; bridge; politics; and finance. Peter was an avid member of the Retired Active Men's Association (RAMS); Kiwanis Club; Republican Party; and Italian Club. A funeral is scheduled for 2:00 PM on August 23, 2014 at Palm Chapel, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV, with a reception to follow in Henderson, Nevada.
