Penny Rae (Raymond) Dunn passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 75. She was born in Michigan to Vivienne and Eugene (Gene) Raymond. Her parents, as well as her sister Patsy (Gregg), preceded her in death.
Penny met and married David Dunn, and after spending their first few years of marriage in Michigan they decided to relocate to Las Vegas. They had two children, Cyndie, a teacher, and Michael, an advertising creative director. While Penny and David later divorced, they eventually became friends again enjoying holidays and special events with their family.
Penny enjoyed frequent trips back to Michigan to visit family and friends. She enjoyed the beautiful scenery and weather. Penny loved nature, everything from the turning of autumn leaves to watching baby eagles make their way into this world.
Penny worked in several industries in her life. She spent time working for Western Airlines, the Clark County School District, and later retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Penny’s quick wit, humor, and creativity often drew others to her, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Penny was very talented and creative. She created beautiful, intricate cross stitch pieces always pushing herself to make each new project harder and better than the last. She also created beautiful knitted projects many for family and friends. She loved music and was a talented pianist. Her creative talents also included writing poems and stories. She has a clever sense of humor and could make you laugh at the drop of a hat.
Penny was very generous, often donating her time to knit afghans for children at The Shade Tree Foundation. She was a strong supporter of children in other ways, donating winter coats, school supplies, and other items to students in need. Additionally, Penny, who was an avid reader, encouraged the love of reading and wonder by donating books and funding grants for local students.
Penny is survived by her daughter, Cyndie and son Michael (Michele) , her grandsons Carter, Spencer, and Cayden, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Per her request, Penny did not wish to have a service. With her love of wine in mind, we are asking that in the coming days you raise a glass to honor her life and memory.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of these organizations that support a few of her favorite things:
