Paula Jolene Larsen Smith passed away May 9, 2011. She was born July 20, 1950, in Price, Utah, to Glen and Helen Larsen. Paula was a resident of Las Vegas since 1974. She graduated from South High in Salt Lake City. She received her bachelor's in teaching from the University of Utah, received a master's in counseling from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and almost completed a second master's in special education from the University of Kansas. Paula worked for the Clark County School District for 30 years as an English teacher, counselor (elementary and middle schools) and special education teach, retiring in 2009. She also taught in the Wyandotte County School District in Kansas City, Kan. for two years in special education, gaining her SPED credentials. Paula is survived by her husband, Tim Smith; daughter, Lindsey Smith (Craig Mills); grandchildren, Ethan and Thomas; son, Eric Smith; mother, Helen Larsen; brother, Wesley Larsen (Robin); nephew, Jason; and niece, Devin. Paula was preceded in death by her father, Glen Larsen; and her grandmother, whom she loved deeply, Victoria (Sube) Striegel. There will be a celebration of Paula's life 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Palm Mortuary - Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. She will be interred at the Redwood Memorial Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
