On Friday, June 18, 2021, Paul Edward Kleinman passed away at the age of 69. A lifelong resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, Paul graduated from Las Vegas High School, and went on to study music at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. Paul finished up at UNLV where he and two of other UNLV students composed and performed “Plymouth, a Rock Opera” in 1973. The production was first performed at the newly constructed Judy Bailey Theater by UNLV students, and then with a professional cast at the MGM Grand Hotel. Paul was the first student ever to orchestrate an endeavor of this size.
Paul was an extremely gifted and talented musician, playing clarinet, alto sax, flute and piano. Music was truly his lifelong daily passion as he studied all the genres. He continued to learn, write, and play music until his last days. This is where he found joy!
Paul loved to tell stories! He loved to talk! He would recall treasured memories, past conversations, and everyday life events with such intelligent detail. He also could put everyone to shame delivering a perfectly crafted joke, a gift he shared with his father! It was all about delivery. He had a dry sense of humor that most of the time left you wondering if it was the truth or a joke because he intertwined humor very cleverly. Paul will be remembered for his incredible music creativity, for the stories and jokes he loved to tell, and his sweet nature. He was a great guy.
Paul is preceded in death by his father, Sol Kleinman, and his mother, Mari Little Kleinman. He is survived by his sisters Kathy (Katie) Mackin, and Laura Shugars, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28, at 9:00 AM at Palm Mortuary at 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123.
In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to the National Institute of Mental Health, at nimh.nih.gov, in memory of Paul Kleinman.
