Major Owen C. Jr. was born on October 30th 1957 in Granite Quarry, North Carolina as the first of five children born to the late Rev. Dr. O.C Dumas Sr. and the late Mrs. Clara Atkins Dumas. He departed this life on Thursday, January 28, 2021.
Owen attended East Rowan High school in Salisbury, NC. He attended Livingstone, A&T, and Atlanta University. During his time in college, he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Social Work. He was a loyal and very active member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Owen joined the US Army where he achieved the rank of Major. He was employed as a psychiatric social worker with Lake Mead hospital. On September 19, 2009 he married Mary Rose Dumas in Las Vegas, NV. Owen enjoyed helping people and making a difference in the lives of others. Owen spent most of his weekends engaging in his infectious passion of playing golf until his health started to decline. He also enjoyed watching golf, watching football and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, wildly entertaining stories, unfailing work ethic, generous smile, and willingness to help out anytime.
He is preceded in death by his father Rev. Dr. O.C. Dumas Sr., November 3, 1996, and Mother Clara Atkins Dumas, May 12,2012, sister Parthenia Mazzell Dumas, December 10, 1995, and brother Conzaodo Dumas, March 22, 2018.
Owen leaves to cherish his legendary memories his wife Mary Rose Dumas, three children Michael Dumas (LuGina Dumas), Marshea Dumas, and Owen Dumas III (Emani Jackson). Six grandchildren, Michael Dumas Jr., Moriah Dumas, Trinity Dumas, Bryden Lewis, Traiden Dumas, Tru King Dumas. Three sibling, Pamela E. Dumas Spencer (Dexter Spencer), Granite Quarry, North Carolina, Ja Ja K. Sr. (Desiree Dumas), Greenville, South Carolina, and God sister Joan Goodman (George Goodman), and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and his longtime friends.
A visitation for Owen will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
