Norvella V. Huey, the 4th child of the late Mary E. Rucker and William “Vick” Rucker, entered this world on August 18, 1918 in Kansas City, MO. She attended high school and graduated from Lincoln High in Kansas City. While living in Kansas City, she met her husband, James C. Huey, in 1943. They moved to San Francisco, CA where they opened a popular restaurant called Jay’s Steakhouse. Norvella later moved to Alaska where she was employed with the military for approximately two years. She then returned to California and was employed with the United States Postal Service where she retired in 1987. She later moved to Las Vegas with her husband to enjoy their retirement. On Thursday, October 10, 2013, Norvella was summoned to rest in the arms of the Lord. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; brothers, Leon, Jesse, Jim, Vernon and Roland; sisters, Loraine, Ruth and Armenta; and nephews, Glenn J. Massie, Michael L. Massie and Richard E. Massie. She leaves to cherish her memory her nieces, Shirli Lucas of Las Vegas, Sharon (Keith) Massie Pace and Kimberly Massie of Detroit, MI, Robyn Van Ross of Kansas City, MO; nephews, Robert Rucker of Las Vegas, Donald Kelly and Theadore Kelly of Kansas City, MO, Charles B. Kelly of Glendale, CA, Mark A. Massie (Enos) of Detroit, MI, Anthony B. Massie of Las Vegas and James E. Massie (Paula) of Detroit, MI. A host of relatives and friends survive her as well. Visitation will be from 12PM-1PM on Thursday, October 24 at Palm South Jones Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146 followed by the funeral at 1PM. Interment will follow at Palm Eastern Cemetery.
