October 11, 2021 at his hard earned residence after receiving palliative care due to an untimely
detection of gastrointestinal cancer.
He was born July 7, 1934 in Quang Nam Da Nang, Vietnam to Nghia Tran and Mai Nguyen. He
found a lifelong partner to journey through life at the age of 25 in Saigon, Vietnam. Nghi married
Lanh Kim Duong shortly after and they remained together until his final moments in their shared
home along with Lan Tran (son), My Pham (daughter-in-law), An Tran (granddaughter), and
Man Tran (grandson). At a very early age, Nghi worked as a newspaper boy, and proudly worked his way up to become a successful Chinese herbalist, a career that provided financial stability for the needs of
his entire immediate family during a difficult time after the Vietnam war. As an occupational
herbalist, he was able to provide the funds to send his two sons, daughter, and brother on a
refugee quest that ultimately served as a foundation in their immigration to the United States.
He began to pursue his dreams of traveling the world to experience new cultures and view vast
sights, all while obtaining and completing various collections of maps, atlases, and
encyclopedias on the world at the time. Nghi enjoyed the happiness of his three grandchildren and often provided surprises with trips to toy stores, played exciting games, and always shared his unbounded love. He also loved great food that paired deliciously with exquisite wines while sharing lengthy anecdotes to recount the extraordinary experiences of his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Lanh Kim Tran, his sons, Hung Mong Tran and Lan Mong Tran, and his three grandchildren, Minh Nguyen, An Tran, and Man Tran who all mainly live in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A funeral service for Nghi will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101. In lieu of flowers, all
donations will be given towards local charities and temples.
