Nancy was born August 21, 1942 in San Bernardino, California to James and Dorothy Detwiler. Growing up in rainy Seattle, Washington, Nancy was ready for the sunshine of Las Vegas when she graduated from the University Washington in 1964 and took a teaching position with the Clark County School District. In Las Vegas Nancy met her husband of 53 years, Charles Madsen. Nancy joined the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints in 1978. She loved doing family history / genealogy and working in the Las Vegas Temple when her health would allow it. Nancy was also a member of several clubs and auxiliaries over the years including Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and several book clubs. She could always be found reading outside on the front porch or in her reading nook with a stack of gospel literature, mystery novels or the book-of-the-month for one of her book clubs.
Charles and Nancy relocated to Stuttgart, Germany for Charles’ job from 1985 to 1989 and from 1992 to 1995, where they spent these years traveling throughout Europe, which was one of Nancy’s dreams. Nancy has spent the last decade battling cancer and other health problems, but she kept her family and friends laughing and inspired. Nancy is survived by her husband, Charles Madsen. Daughters Christy Allen, Cynthia Lang and Candice Madsen, Grandchildren Chris, Courtney, Conner, Jesse and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Madsen.
