Dr. Nabih Helmi was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and physician.
He was born in Beni Suef, Egypt, on December 2, 1932, the youngest of six siblings. After graduating from Ain Shams medical school in Cairo, he proudly served the Egyptian military for seven years, enduring two wars.
In 1970, he, along with his wife and toddler daughter, immigrated to the United States. In 1975, he established his anesthesiology practice in Las Vegas, NV. There, he helped establish the cardiac surgery program at Desert Springs Hospital and was a member of the first all-physician trauma team at UMC, helping save countless lives.
As a founder of Saint Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Las Vegas, he was instrumental in securing a historic visit from HH Pope Tawadros II in 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Salwa Helmi, his daughters, Mrs. Nahed Abdou wife of Dr. Sherif Abdou, and Miss Nashwa Helmi, and son, Dr. Nader Helmi husband of Mrs. Jennifer Helmi, along with his four grandchildren, Mr. David Abdou husband of Mrs. Nadine Abdou, Miss Sophia Abdou, Miss Hunter Helmi and Miss Noemie Helmi.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1pm on December 29, 2021, at Palm Mortuary 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
Celebration of Life to follow, 2:30pm at Panevino Tuscany room, 246 Via Antonio Ave.
