Mona was born on August 5, 1953 in Mahe, Seychelles, to Amelia and Francis Chang Him. She was the last born of 10 siblings. Mona's special gift was her big heart, kindness, and calm presence. She was passionate about cooking and baking and loved to enjoy her cuisine with her loved ones. That loving heart extended to feeding the neighborhood stray cats.
Mona graduated from Modern Secondary School in Mont Fleuri and attended The Secretarial School. She started her career in finance as an Income Tax officer with the Seychelles government before joining Barclay's Bank in 1974. The last 15 years she worked as a bookkeeper at Santa Fe Mining Company.
Mona and her son Gilbert Pritchard immigrated to the United States in 1978 and, shortly after that, made Las Vegas their home. Along with her husband, Gilby Pritchard, they welcomed a daughter, Melissa, in September 1983.
She was a beloved mother, aunt and cherished friend to many. Her departure leaves a void in many hearts, and we are fortunate to have the memories, laughter, and wisdom imparted to many. Her kindness and spirit will continue to live in our hearts.
Mona is preceded in death by her parents, nince of her siblings, and her son. Gilbert Pritchard, and partner of years, Elbert Harris. She leaves behind a daughter, Melissa Pritchard, numerous nieces and nephews and sister, May Hoareau. The service to honor Mona's life will be held on Sunday, November 26, at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary at 1:30pm.
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each, I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints; other times there was only one.
During the low periods of my life I could see only one set of footprints, so I said, "You promised me, Lord, that you would walk with me always. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?"
The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you."
