

Michael Robert Kerekes, 94, a 65 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away January 10th, 2019. Michael was born June 26, 1924, in Indiana to Michael and Elsie Kerekes. Michael served in the United States Army during World War II. Michael met the love of his life Margaret Shirey in 1946, in Columbus Georgia. They moved west to Las Vegas to start their new life. Michael started his career in the early 1950’s. One of Michael and Margaret adventures was opening a grocery store. Michael started his casino career at the Golden Nugget. He worked there for over 20 years as a dealer and then moved on to the Sahara Hotel and Casino where he remained until he retired in the late 1990’s. Michael and Margaret spent their lifetime acquiring all types of collectibles and antiques, during that time he established a friendship with Doby Doc, one of Las Vegas’s pioneers of Las Vegas. Michael’s most prized possessions was his car collection. At the time of his passing, Michael had acquired 65 automobiles, his favorite being Model T Fords. Michael and Margaret had a long, happy life enjoying their adventures collecting many treasures. Michael is preceded in death by his wife Margaret and his son Jimmy. He is survived by his son Mike; grandson Mike and his granddaughter Michelle; his sister Joy and his brother Joseph. Michael will be laid to rest next to his wife and his son at Palm Northwest Cemetery. As Michael would say “Glad that’s over with, was that so hard”
