It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Michael (Mike) Joseph Hayes passed away from cardiac arrest at St. Rose Siena Hospital in Las Vegas, NV on February 17th, 2023. His loving wife of 57 years, Linda Hayes, was at his side, as well as his granddaughters, Kayla Hayes, Rebecca Theel, Jessica Theel, and grandson Justin Hayes.
Mike was born on December 19th, 1944, to Irish Catholic immigrants Mary & Patrick Hayes in Brooklyn, New York. His two brothers, Patrick & John Hayes pre-deceased Mike in 1991 and 2021, respectively. In 1962, he met Linda DeZego, and they were married on June 18, 1966, in Ridgewood, New York. He was a beloved father of Debra Bowerman, and her husband Shawn Bowerman, and Kathleen Pridmore. Mike was a devoted grandpa to Joscelyn Heilmann, Jaden Bowerman, Rebecca Theel, and her husband Justin Love, Kayla Hayes, Justin Hayes, and Jessica Theel. But we all know it was his great-grandchildren, Aubrey (6), Arianna (3), and Justin, Jr. (2) who really stole his heart – and his Starburst candies!
Mike graduated Brooklyn Tech in 1962 and began a long career with New York Telephone & Telegraph, which later became AT&T. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in 1965 and honorably discharged in 1967; after his military service, Mike obtained his A.A. degree at a tech school in NY. In 1978, Mike moved his family to Sunnyvale, CA and continued working for Pacific Bell/Lucent Technologies. In 1994, he retired, and they relocated the family to Las Vegas.
Years past, he was an avid bowler, poker player, and loved time away with his family and friends to Lake Tahoe and Pismo Beach. Our fondest memories of Mike always include so much laughter; he had a sharp wit that will be so very missed.
A Requiem Mass will be held on March 7, 2023, 10:00 AM, St. Thomas More Catholic Community, 139 Pecos Road, Las Vegas, NV 89074. A Visitation will be held from 12:00PM to 6:00PM at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mike will be interred on March 8, 2023, 9:20 AM, Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mike Hayes to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the American Heart Association.
