Michael W. Harris

Michael was born in Harbor City, California, July 24, 1976, to proud parents Roger Harris and Dorothy Hilburn and big brother Brian. At two and a half, Michael took his first of many trips to the tropics and moved to Kihei, Maui with brother Brian and Dorothy and lived the island life for a year.

At age 3 1/2, Michael and Brian returned to California to live with Roger, who since married Marika in Torrance, California.

Michael attended both Edison Elementary School and Bert Lynn Middle School in Torrance. Sisters Lauren and Jessica soon rounded out the numbers and in 1988, the Harris family moved to Huntington Beach, California and soon added little brother, Chris.

Michael loved life in Huntington Beach, bon fires, surfing, and especially TK Burgers, life was good! After graduating from Talbert Middle School, Michael attended Edison High School and was a pole vaulter on the track team. After graduating high school, Michael trained in the electrical trade and worked with Roger and Brian and the three found themselves traveling to Las Vegas for the housing boom.

Michael loved the electrical trade and was a proud member of IBEW 357, the electrical workers union, and landed a job at the Tropicana, making Las Vegas his new home. Through a mutual friend, Mike met Nancy; they fell in love and married in 2003. Mike and Nancy enjoyed many adventures to Cancun, Bahamas, Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta, New York and Washington DC. Shortly after leaving the Tropicana, Michael went to work for Bechtel at the Nevada Test Site. We all use to ask Mike what he saw, and we always got the same answer… “If I tell you, I’ll have to kill you”… so we left that one alone.

Michael followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and joined the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge where he devoted a lot of his time. Mike also volunteered time to the Shriners Children’s Hospital by driving children to and from California for healthcare. After leaving the Nevada Test Site, Michael started his own handyman business, Harris Services and worked closely with Community Lutheran Church.

Michael and Nancy were blessed with three beautiful children; Devin, Isaiah and Makenlei. More than anything, Mike loved his family, his children and just loved being a DAD!!! Mike was passionate about everything he did and wore his heart on his sleeve. Mike is survived by his wife Nancy, his sons Devin and Isaiah and his beautiful daughter, Makenlei.

Memorial service will be held Friday, February 9th, 11:00am at Palm Eastern Mortuary. Committal will follow at noon.
