Mel Larson, 87, peacefully passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, with his wife, Marilyn, and family by his side. Mel was born in 1929, in Plymouth, Mich., to Oleta Mae and Algot Larson, who have preceded him in passing. He is survived by his wife, of 37 years, Marilyn; brother, Alvin Larson of Tempe, Ariz.; children, Melinda Larson, Jenny DiPaulo, Steven Larson, Carol Osborne, Teresa Sussman, and their children. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joyce Adams and her daughters, Michelle Leininger, Vicki Davis, and their children. Mel was well-known for his marketing expertise as executive vice president of Circus Circus properties for 20 years. He was also known throughout the NASCAR community for racing in his early career days and was instrumental in the inception of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Mel was in the U.S. Air Force, which sent him to Luke Air Force Base, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. He then owned and operated a drag strip in the Phoenix area before coming to Las Vegas and joining the Circus Circus team for Bill Bennett. Mel was always very generous with his time, helping others with great advice and guidance. Mel will be missed by many. Memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 3, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, the Larson family is requesting donations in his honor to the Animal Foundation in Las Vegas.
