Maxine Slack Cook of Las Vegas , age 92, passed away peacefully October 6, 2013, while surrounded by her loving children and grandchild. She was a member of the LDS church and has now returned home to Heavenly Father to join her husband, Ray. Maxine was born on July 2, 1921, in Toquerville ,Utah, to Martin Harry Slack and Rowena Worthen Slack. She was delivered at home by her grandmother, a midwife. She married Lyndon J. Lunt when 24 years of age and had her son, Lynn, and her daughter, Kathleen. She was widowed at age 29 before moving to Las Vegas in 1950. While raising two young children, she began working at KLAS Radio. As fate would have it, the man she moved next door to would become her soul mate and husband for the next 53 years. Together they had two more children, Carmen and Leonard, to add to their family. When Maxine returned to the workforce, she joined the fast-paced world of early Las Vegas casino hotels in public relations and advertising. In the span of her career she worked at the Desert Inn, Stardust, Hacienda, Fremont, Maxim, and Landmark Hotels where she rose from the secretarial pool to become Director of Publicity and Advertising for three of the properties. Maxine was preceded in death by her mother and father, infant brother Harry Slack, sisters Cola and Pharol, granddaughter Christina Cook, first husband Lyndon J. Lunt, and Ray Gordon Cook to whom she was sealed for time and all eternity in the Las Vegas LDS Temple. She is survived by her son Lynn (Connie) Cook, daughter Kathleen (Jay) McNeil, daughter Carmen (Chris) Barnbeck, son Leonard (Dani) Cook, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will take place Thursday Oct. 10, 6-7:30 pm at Palm Mortuary located at 1325 No. Main Street, Las Vegas, NV., 89101. Services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, at the LDS Chapel located at 4040 East Wyoming Ave., Las Vegas, NV.,89104. The viewing will be held at 9:30 thru 10:45am and funeral services will follow at 11:00. Interment will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caliente, Nevada, where Maxine will be placed to rest next to her beloved husband, Ray.
