The world lost an amazing man this week who has left a huge void in the lives of his family and friends. Matthew Gregg Sheffield was born on July 6, 1972 to Raymond and Cynthia Sheffield, in Pomona, California, and passed away on November 20, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Growing up in Chino, California, Matt attended Chino High School and played Jr. Varsity & Varsity football on the Chino Cowboys football team. He continued to play football into his college years at Chaffee Jr. College. He played little league baseball in his younger years, but football was his passion.
Matt has been a beverage manager at the LINQ Hotel & Casino for Ceasers Entertainment since 2016. For the 15 years prior, he was the bar manager at Scoundrels Pub II in North Las Vegas where he mixed drinks, conversation and fun using his infectious smile and personality to turn customers into forever friends. If you knew Matt, you loved him. He was the best kind of friend anyone could have. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He was devoted to his family, loved his country and committed to his friends.
He had just started to take some time to travel the last few years. Stayed up all night his first day in Hawaii because he wanted to see the sunrise over the ocean. Got to see Ireland, London and most recently, Bermuda on the “Oh Ship Family Trip” to celebrate his mother’s 65th birthday.
Matthew is survived by his beautiful wife Katie Collins Sheffield, his step-son, Graydon Proby, his mother, Cynthia Bailey (John Williams), his sisters, Rachelle Sheffield and Stacey Sheffield Medina (Jonathan Wyble), his grandmother, Jennie Pirro, a nephew, Trenten Medina, 3 nieces, Trachelle Medina, Stella Wyble and Taryn Sheffield, who he loved dearly and who thought the world of him. He was loved by his Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and leaves behind so many forever friends. At the top of that list is Jeremy Flickinger and Danny Yamas Jr. who he called his brothers from another mother.
Matt was an avid sports fan and loved the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Dodgers, LA Lakers and USC (much to his Uncle’s disappointment since he is a UCLA Alumni).
He is preceded in death by his father, best friend, hero and who he would tell you, was the greatest man he ever knew, Raymond Andrew Sheffield. Also, his grandparents, Herbert & Doris Sheffield, his grandfather, Allen Davey who he never got to know because he passed away before Matt was born, but always thanked for his tall stature.
A Celebration of Matthew’s Life will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary.
Matthew was always first in line to help others. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Liver Foundation in his name would be a way for all of us to help him continue that legacy.
FAMILY
Matthew also leaves behind a large extended family and many close friends to cherish his memory.
