Matt served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force. He joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in August 1996 and served with the LVMPD for 23 years. During his noteworthy career, Matt worked as an officer in patrol and field training, a detective in narcotics, and as a sergeant in field training, violent crimes. At the end of his Metro career, Matt served as a beloved sergeant in homicide for over ten years. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues for his infectious laugh, his great attention to detail, and for always looking to teach, train and make things better.
Matt currently was an Officer with Moapa Tribal Police.
In his spare time Matt could be found hiking, fishing or just enjoying the outdoors. He enjoyed cooking and watching NASCAR. His pride and joy was his 3 children, he was always involved in his kid's life. Matt was known to always be there for his family, friends but also those that he didn't know. He would give the shirt off his back. He always did the right thing even if he wasn't wearing a badge.
Matt was preceded in death by his father in 2010. Matt is survived by his three children, Jarad, Breann and Jacob Sanford and his mother, Lois.
A memorial service for Matt will be held Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 7:00 PM at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
