Mary Kawamoto is known to friends and acquaintances as a friendly, energetic, and empathic woman. She was warmhearted, gentle and organized in all the things she sought to accomplish, which made her a great mentor and a natural “teacher” capable of seeing things clearly, leading others, and bringing out the best in all of those around her.
Mary was raised in Sacramento, California and in Japan with her one brother, George. When she was young, Mary's friends and family found that “straightforward” and “honest” were perfect words to describe her, but always communicated with her unique warmth, compassion and lightheartedness. As a child, Mary was a person who genuinely understood and cared for others, making powerful connections with those she knew.
These traits continued on throughout her life as she devoted herself completely to her husband, Tomi, and daughter, Donna Lynn. Family truly came first for Mary, and she was always generous with her time, always making certain to consider Tomi’s feelings, and doing her best to make sure that both the marriage and home life ran smoothly.
Mary experienced success in her work life as well, with her primary occupation being an office administrator with the Los Angeles County Hospital. Mary took pride in managing her professional responsibilities and seemed to always know what was necessary to successfully complete a project. Yet, Mary was also quite interested in helping her colleagues grow and develop their own potential, paying close attention to what co-workers did well and how they were most effective, while also encouraging them in overcoming challenges.
Her favorite pursuit was traveling with her husband and the Senior groups all over the world, with her favorite vacations including going to the Wisconsin Dell and to Africa.
Throughout her life, Mary was a gregarious and enthusiastic woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She was generous in sharing her personal attributes, giving and helping those she knew and loved. She always brought out the best in everyone. She was imaginative, original, tender-hearted and easy to get along with, and loved animals. Mary leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and cherished memories. Everyone whose lives she touched will dearly remember Mary Y. Kawamoto.
Mary passed away on September 9, 2010 at her home. She is survived by her husband Tomi Kawamoto. Services were held at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Mary was laid to rest next to her daughter Donna Lynn, at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Summerlin-Funeral Home, Las Vegas, NV.
